Brandon Laird is this year's Chip Cannon thus far. Hit a HR today and is 10-14 overall.

Tanner Scheppers had a great debut: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Austin Romine: 2-2 (.600)

Chris Heisey: 2-2, RBI (.600)

Andrew Lambo: 2-2, 2B, 3B, RBI (.500)

Laird is at least 4 years younger than Cannon was when the Chip Cannon lunacy began.

I love looking at pitching stats from the AFL...it's such a blood bath for the most part so when a pitcher puts in solid work like Scheppers, it's always good to see.

The comparison was based upon overall prospect status, not age. I wonder if his 08 BC's will pick up any steam.

Really hope Scheppers can keep it up. Also I think Danny Gutierrez had a sold outing yesterday as well. That is 2 Rangers pitchers I am keeping an eye on during the AFL.

After getting rocked in his first outing, Andrew Oliver rebounded nicely: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

Lambo is now a HR away from the cycle.

Starlin Castro and Mike Stanton are both 2-3.

I really hope those who are holding on to "non-prospect" top tier cards are willing to move them. Historically, the non-prospects who put up great AFL numbers and have some hype stay non-prospects and never make an impact at the MLB level.

Kevin Howard supports this statement.

The CFO of Enron?

Case in point.

From BA awhile back:
Kevin Howard, 2b/3b, Reds

Howard has the biggest buzz coming into this year's draft after having a brilliant season in the Arizona Fall League. A fifth-round pick in 2002 out of Miami, Howard won the AFL batting title, hitting .409-3-16 in 88 at-bats. But perhaps his strongest asset was proving himself to be an adequate defender at third base. Howard played third in college, but played primarily second base since turning pro. He's a patient lefthanded hitter with a line-drive stroke, and has shown improved power. Some scouts in the AFL liked him better at third, and Howard could be solid at either spot making him the best overall position player available in the draft. Dan Uggla (Diamondbacks) is another utility player who dramatically upped his stock in the AFL, but Howard's lefthanded bat, which could be valuable off a big league bench, gives him the edge.
