After what point do cards become "vintage"?

My mom's boyfriend has a lot of sports cards that he had acquired and I started going through some of them today and I was just wondering what makes a card vintage?
There were quite a few early-80s baseball cards and some 70s football cards.

Some people say 1973 because that was the last series released set from Topps. Others say 1981 when Donruss and Fleer joined the baseball card market. I don't know that there is a strict definition.

I was born in 1980, so I consider anything before that as vintage.

i think that whatever year they started having multiple rookie cards / everything before then to me is vintage pre 80

Anything 20 years old or older. I use that for everything, not just cards though - so 1990 is technically vintage :? :shock:

For me it's always been pre-1957, the year Topps adopted the card size that have remained the industry standard ever since.

1979 and earlier seems to be the norm, but 1975 and earlier is another reasonable point.

Pre1948 = Vintage (PreWar)
Post1948 = Modern (the Topps/Bowman days)
1990-2010 = Shinny (shinny gimmick card era)
