FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge in Tennessee and will be on probation for three months.

Court records show Haynesworth entered his plea Thursday morning in the Nashville suburb of Franklin. He's required to perform 25 hours of community service, make a $5,000 charitable contribution and attend driving school.

The charge against the former Tennessee Titans player stems from a Dec. 13 incident in which prosecutors say Haynesworth tried to pass another driver, who crashed into a concrete median and was badly injured.

Circuit Court Judge Jeff Bivins told Haynesworth that he hopes the process has shown that no one is infallible.

Really? Because I'm sure that Joe Schmo off the street would have lost his license, possibly received probation, and would be doing a little more than 25 hours of community service...

In Haynesworth's case, $5,000 is the equivalent of us committing the same offense and the judge giving us a $5 fine. I don't really expect the court to modify numbers on fines though, but it still irks me.

In Finland, the fine you pay for traffic violations is partially based on your income. In 2004, a heir to a family sausage empire was driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone and got a $204,000 USD fine.
