Joe Girardi - "I didn't think he [Nova] had his best stuff today."

Straight from the managers mouth.

I'd assume part of that is referencing his struggles in the 9th, which meant nothing. When you made the comment that he isn't at his best, it was before his 9th inning when he allowed 3 baserunners to reach.

So, in 6 innings he gave up 5 baserunners, with 5 K. Either you are delusional (by thinking he wasn't at his best), or Nova's season starts are wrong. He had a 3.70 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 165 innings. His start today, before the 9th, was WAY better than his season average. He hasn't lost since June or something, but he's had great run support. Seems like about half of his starts he gave up 3+ runs, so I don't understand how today he was not at his best, or didn't have his best stuff. Sure, he's probably had a few starts where he was slightly better-but he was WELL above his season averages today-again, taking out that 9th inning because your comment was before the 9th.

Oh, and vwnut-I wanted to declare the Yankees game 1 champions! Congratulations man....soak it in.

Judging by how you changed the thread title, you must really be happy. Just as happy as you were in 2006 when you beat us in game 1. I can't wait to come back again, and send your overpaid players home for the offseason.

Boy the wheels fell off quick in that one. Hopefully the Tigers bats can come alive against Garcia and Scherzer can bring his stuff today.

Since June 3rd (Last Loss) Ivan Nova was:

16 Starts
11 Quality Starts
12-0
105.1 IP
3.25 ERA

Ivan Nova didn't have his best stuff, period. Girardi wasn't talking about the ninth inning. Nova was effectively wild against the Tigers.

Oh, and I'm sorry that I updated the thread to have the final score. :?

I didn't see it but I heard Pettitte threw out the first pitch. Also heard it was faster than any pitch Freddy Garcia has thrown all year.

Well that was probably the easiest shot to call this year

Honest question for Yankees fans-who would you rather have starting, Posada or Montero?

I haven't seen Posada all year really, so all I know about him are his stats. It seems like Montero would be the better option, but I don't watch the Yankees-so that is why I ask.

I would rather have Julio Lugo batting than Posada.

In little league, I once slid head first at first base. My coach chewed me out, then my father chewed me out. Last time I did it. EVER. Why does one of the fastest people in baseball insist on diving in to first base? Drives me nuts.

As a Tigers fan, I really don't fear Posada, based on him being on the down-side of his career, and his #'s from this year. Montero, on the other hand, would scare me because he has shown very nice extra base pop.

The only people who fear Posada are Yankee fans.

We are afraid that instead of him just striking out he will hit into a double play. (or get caught between third and home)

Left Handed hitters are 2 for their last 40 off Benoit.

Here comes Chavez to pinch hit.

I was pretty happy to see Chavez come up. Gardner always worries me-a contact guy, in that spot, is not fun to face. Bringing in Chavez really made no sense, especially considering he has just 2 HR on the year.
