The All-Star game was a joke when all the undeserving players like Jeter were voted into the game. Now it's becoming more realistic.

And the television ratings will reflect the fact less people will care for the game which in turn will show people why the all star game is voted on by the fans.

Vogelsong

Completely ridiculous that any of them made the game above Hanson let alone all three.

When the Braves make the World Series, they can take their staff.

Wow. That explains everything, thanks for that.

they made the all star game give home field advantage so it didnt become irrelevant... hows that working? lets see how happy the american league team is when it has to play more games without the dh in the world series even though their record is better. cause as much as i hate j.d. drew he gives the sox a better chance to win being at the plate than jon lester. sad thing to me is all these available players that are passing to "rest" are going to have the all star tag behind their name for 2011 for the remainder of their career. then some will use a few of those to get into the HOF...

You can ask Charlie Manuel about it too, or Joe Girardi each manager does it.

First ballot HOFers are often on the team at the end of their careers, even when they're mediocre at best, its always been this way. Ripken jumps to mind.

and to think that Tommy Hanson still hasn't been named to the team is a complete travesty.

16 players being replaced. and only five of them are actually on the DL.

Vogelsong and Pablo were more valid candidates than Tommy Hanson, sorry.

You haven't been watching baseball this year if you really think so. Those were just homer Bochy picks which is fine but need to be recognized as such.

Unless Tommy Hanson is going to play third base I don't want to hear this whining. Vogelsong has been fantastic, 6-1 with a 2.17 ERA. If you want to complain about somebody taking Hanson's spot, how about Kevin Correia (11-7 with a 4.01 ERA)?

I don't mind when pitchers are replaced because they just started a game. I'm fine with that. I'm also fine with guys not playing because of injuries, or a situation like Jeter's where he was just hurt, and doesn't want to take a chance on making it worse. Not going because you just want time off is another thing though.

The biggest issue is, at one time it was just an exhibition game for fun. So why would you risk a season to play in it with an injury? Now it has some level of importance for those on teams who are in the mix, and fans get all up tight about it.

I wish they would just go back to the old ways, and play for nothing.

You really are an idiot. Vogelsong has a 2.1 something ERA. And I don't see Hanson playing 3B.

Of all the pitchers for you to pick on ::facepalm::

So you think that Vogelsong deserves to go over Tommy Hanson? Vogelsong is a starter and not even eligible for the ERA title. Any other manager and Vogelsong doesn't make the AS team.

Why do you think Bochy was able to pick 4 more pitchers and 3 of them were Giants?

It hillarious the amount of Giants bashing the happens on these boards.

Vogelsong deserves it, does anyone know which players were choosen by the players and which by Bochy? I don't. Some players are added based on the votes by the players. This means that Bochy or any manager doesn't have a say. Plus, how narrow minded do you need to be to not see that Vogelsong is one of the top pitchers this season? He'd have even more wins if he was on a team with a better offense. I've said it before, the managers reward the players on their team, I've watched a lot of all Yankees teams over the last 20 years to think that this year is some how wildly different because the Giants are the World Champions. Also remember that Bochy has clearly stated he took other managers opinions about their players into account. I'd even guess that some managers, maybe even the Braves, have asked Bochy to not select certain players.....thinks about it.

On another note, the day after the All-Star game the Giants Showtime series, The Franchise, starts on the 13th.

Pretty ring isn't it?

I personally think it is awesome that Vogelsong made it, one of the best stories in all of baseball this year. I do however think that there is a strong argument to be made for Hanson over Lincecum or Cain. If the season ended today, Hanson would be in the top 5 in Cy Young voting, but somehow he isn't good enough to make the All Star Team?

As I stated before - Lincecum, Cain, and Vogelsong were all selected by Bochy and not the players. And he only got to select 4 or 5 pitchers total.

Can we get off the Remove Vogelsong/Cain/Lincecum argument? As mentioned before KEVIN CORREIA IS AN ALL STAR.
