Man, did that look like the "old" Dom Brown on that Double by Kipnis. He looked completely lost on that one. Makes it 3-0 AL...

In case you didn't know, McCarver is retiring after this Season. For a possible singing career! :???:

And pretty cool to have Diamond do "Sweet Caroline" tonite!

Guess he doesn't have the confidence in Nathan or Perk to hold the lead in the 8th and let Mariano get the save in the 9th.

Exactly.

Can't take the PR chance of having the NL come back and then Rivera doesn't make an Appearance out at all. Leyland would have to walk to their next Series.

It's a different sport but it'd be just as bad as when Ditka didn't put Payton in on the Goal Line in their SB blowout and never got the chance to make up for it...

Rivera should have come out in the bottom of the 9th inning, whether it's 3-0 or 18-0. Just plain stupid to come out in the 8th inning as Rivera made his living as a CLOSER, not a setup man. In the bottom 9th, Rivera would get the standing O's and cheers still and it would be a save situation or he would close out the game in a non-save situation depending on if the AL cashes in right now in the top9th.

Couldn't take a chance wanted to make sure he got in. If he brought someone else in in the bottom of the 8th & the NL took the lead and held it there would be no bottom of the 9th for him to come in to.

worst case, if the 8th inning starting reliever gave up the go ahead run, then they could still have put Rivera in the 8th,

No that would be lame, not the same as coming in to his music, getting the standing O & taking as much time as he wanted to embrace the moment.
