June of 1996. He ran into a wall trying to make a catch.

2006 offseason, I believe. And yes, I looked it up because I have never heard of a hamate. Griffey and a bunch of other ballplayers have had theirs removed, as well.

You can't say that.

Some come back and some struggle.

Maybe, but Almora is still a teen - if he was in his mid 20's or older, maybe there would be cause for some 'doom and gloom' concern.

Well, from 1996 to 1999 Griffey hit 49, 56, 56, and 48 home runs so it must be possible to retain a little bit of pop in the bat after this injury.

The hamate is one of the small bones in the wrist. It's got a very poor vascular supply and therefore rarely heals properly. That type of injury can linger a long time.

Wow. Never thought I'd use my background as a physical therapist in this forum!

isnt that the bone bautista broke last year swinging at a pitch?

No. Bautista had an issue with a tendon in his wrist. I never got the details about exactly what happened but apparently it was something with the tendon not tracking properly in it's sheath. They said only one other MLB'er had the same surgery Jose had to reconstruct it.

So...I guess I'm stuck with this because I don't do prospecting correctly? (sell before the guy gets a serious injury)
