Anyone know of any upcoming signings in Brainerd or Bemidji (or preferably in between)? I will most likely be heading up that way on Thursday of this week. It's a long shot but I thought I would ask. It would just be something to do I guess.

Probably not. But if you're going through Brainerd, you should stop at the card shop on Front Street. Great shop, nice owner, and some great $5 boxes in the back.

#Twins source says chances team makes a trade today are "bleak." Only 30 minutes to deadline.

The biggest problem is that the nats feel like the Twins want to much, and the Twins feel the Nats are puting too much value on their end. They should just throw us a bone since they got the better deal with Ramos last year

With the column in the paper today about the Twins deadline trades, they gave a thumbs up to the trade of Capps for Ramos/Testa.

Well I guess we got what we wanted last year, but we gave upside away. I get that Ramos would have not been a catcher for us beacuse of Mauer, but still.

I'm not hating on span either if thats how its coming off. I just think right now its better for the team if we worked out the deal. Revere is working out fine in Center, and we need the solid arm. If we're going to make a push at all, we can use all the solid and conisitent pitching we can get.

Mackey was right here, with both of his recent tweets

PMac21 Phil Mackey
#Tigers and #Indians made significant upgrades at deadline. #Twins will be upgraded significantly w/ returns of Span and Morneau.

PMac21 Phil Mackey
But #Twins front office out on a long, narrow limb by not trading Cuddyer, Kubel or any other expiring contracts. Interest was there.

That was a nice shop. I haven't been there in years. I remember where it is although I don't remember the actual shop too well. I was probably in Hobby Lobby more than SCC.

What kind of boxes do they have? I won't have a ton of money, but I may be able to grab a couple $5 ones. I wanted to take some wax to break while I was up there because we don't have TV or internet at the house.

The only reason I asked about the signings is because I know there are some retired hockey pros that live in that area and I didn't know if they do any signings or not. Probably not...

They've got everything new. Have lots of packs for around $5, had Allen Ginter a few days after it came out for $100, 10 Chrome wasn't great, 2 for $150. Look through all those boxes in the back, that's where I found the Ankiel sketch. It's pretty easy to find although deending on where you're coming from the turn comes up quick. Right between the watertower and the tracks in not a great area of town, cheap rent though.

I'm just glad they kept Span. Slowey should have been gone as well as Kubel, but they kept Span.

Revere should have gotten an ITP HR on that one, now watch them strand him.

Happy that we didn't trade Span, disappointed that we didn't move Slowey or at least try to pickup another RP. Slowey should have garnered some interest after his line last night against the Yankees AAA team:

8 IP, 5 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 8 K

Is he going to be called up as a starter, maybe replace Blackburn who has been off lately, or does he just not want to pitch with the team again?

Not sure. It was pretty much a given that he knew he would get traded because he wants to start and we didn't have a opening. He'll be in AAA the rest of the year unless a spot opens up, he can't pitch out of the bullpen. I feel like we have pitchers that aren't consistent enough. We have 2 of the biggest hit or miss pitchers in the league in Blackburn and Liriano. Here is what you typically get from them (for example):

Good day:

Liriano - 7 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Blackburn - 8 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

Bad day (more often lately):

Liriano - 2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 3 K
Blackburn - 3 IP, 12 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 0 K

Good start to the game, although it would have been nice to have anyone besides Thome as the lead runner as he should have been able to take a second base on one of the two hits. 35 pitches is a nice start as well, now if we don't get a 5 pitch inning, should get to the bullpen by the sixth.

In Span we trust! Now this group needs to freakin do something. Everybody in clubhouse is all duckies and bunnies. No one got moved. So lets not get all fat and happy and curl up in the post season.
