These last couple years kinda screwed him....but I think his defensive numbers will help him get in eventually.

Once HOF voters start putting more weight into defensive numbers, plenty of deserving players will get in. Jones could get in if enough voters value his defensive stats as much as they value his offensive numbers. Maybe Alan Trammell will get his chance if that ever happens...

Being one of the best defenders of all time and winning ten consecutive gold gloves gets him in. Probably not first ballot, but he'll get in eventually.

nyet - damn good ballplayer (minus his Dodger tenure :x), but his name never inspired, "oh my God, that dude's a BEAST" types of thoughts in my mind. 'Course, there are already lots of players in the Hall that just don't belong (Don Sutton leaps to mind).

I think he had the potential to be a HOF but seemed to peter out towards the end. I know some HOF's did as well, but only after they had a spot all but locked up.

i moved to atlanta when things started to go south for andruw and i couldnt believe, based on what i knew about what he had accomplished here, how much everyone wanted him gone and how few mourned his leaving.

this tells me all i need to know as to whether or not he's a HOFer.

His fielding puts him over the top.

Second career fielding WAR leader, think Ozzie on steroids.

Are Unique and I the only ones that consider this an important factor in pushing an individual past the title of "very good"? The only person Andruw trails in this category is Brooks Robinson. I'm not trying to be biased here but even if I had no idea who Andruw was, I would still vote to put him in the hall based on the following factors: Second best defender of all time (Which this may be open for debate because it is based on a player's WAR), 400+ home runs, 1200+ RBI, & 150+ SB. Also, I think it's important to note that in '05, Andruw missed the MVP by 3 votes. Pujols finished with 84% and Jones with 78%. Having a MVP award attached to your name (in the opinion of most) enters you into a different echelon of players and if those 3 votes would have gone his way, Andruw would have had much more credence lent to his HoF candidacy.

I think his descent has so rapid that he doesn't get in. Most HOF'ers kind of slowly go bad. Jones went from very good/great to horrible so quickly that it will make it hard for writers to vote him in.

I commented at length in the markakis8 thread. I would vote for him but I don't think he will get in.

One of the highlights of my hours upon hours of wasting time watching baseball has been watching that guy play CF for those first 10 years of his career.

Wasn't Jones one of the guys busted in some big strip club back door dealings. ALong with Ewing, TD ect?

I don't think he gets in. Steriod era, sudden drop off. Just stealing money now.

Other than the Dodgers, who wasted a ton of money on him, who is he stealing money from? He signed with Texas and Chicago for $500,000 a year and provided them with at least that much value, if not more. The Yankees signed him for $2 million this year and quite frankly, I don't think they are giving him enough at bats to get into any kind of hitting groove. Either way, for 2 million, they got a playoff experienced veteran as a bench player.

So in the past 3 years he has signed for a total of $3 million. I don't think he is sticking around to steal money from teams.

Coming from a dodger fan, he is not a HOFer.

So you can tell he isn't a HOFer based on 1 year he played for your team? You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but making it based on the 1 year he played for the Dodgers is not a very educated or unbiased opinion.

YES! Great center fielder.everyone needs to get over the roids area. most baseball writers are a-holes anyway and would not even know how to put on a jock strap.

If he retired today NO WAY! But he is only 34 year old.

If he could catch a second wind and throw up a couple more 25-30 HR years with 100+ RBIs he will get in...

This is his 4th year he will have less than 300 ABs... so you see the trend... so young too :? , downfall is the crappy batting average and whiffs and doesnt even have 2000 hits yet and is NOW a part timer. Up side he already has more 100+ RBI seasons than Mantle (not saying much).
