Another Astros A to Z Project Milestone Reached! (Pic Heavy)

Absolutely amazing job my friend. I was actually sorting some of my cards last night, going through a ton of Astros commons and started thinking about your A to Z Astros auto project.

Once I get a hold of some addresses, I plan on starting to send out to some of the guys who used to play for the Astros when I was growing up and some of the old managers.

Good luck on getting more, if I ever see any that you don't have yet, I will let you know!!

Man...I had a ton of cards I have never scanned.I have so many different cards it literally takes me days to go through and I can sometimes forget what I have.I figured I'd show these bad boys though.Not all of them are in astros uniform but hey...you can't always have your cake and eat it too.

All were either obtained in person or are certified but a few.I think I got the Ashby, the Knight, and the Garner and one Deshaies from a dealer but they ran about $3-$5 a pop so I am not too worried about it.

An 8x10 that I still need to get framed!

The player cards they give out at all of the signings during the Caravan.

Milo's actually has some stuff about him on the back.All the others merely say astros on the back.

I alos have a ton of signed balls and bats and other odds and ends that I don't have pics(or good pcis of anyways) up on the net of.Maybe one day.It sucks though because I actually have a lot of guys on balls that I don't have on cards and whatnot.

Honestly I have balls of a ton of players.Some are not even astros.I am kind of weird about collecting.I never like to go half ass on anything so I decided if I was going to try for auto'd balls or bats that I would keep at it.I don't like to look at something and know it was a half way attempt.Luckily I have been able to make a lot of the Caravan appearances.The bad thing is though...after you do it for a couple of years...the same old guys always seem to be doing it and the few guys who are new and you'd really like to get either don't show up or are so far away that its not worth the drive.I'd drive to Austin to get Bagwell but I am not driving to Corpus or Brownsville to get Tejada.

But one other thing you will find is that if you work a normal job then it is awfully hard to get off every day for these things.And they are always during the day when people are at work.I guess its their way of keeping too many people from coming.

One of the biggest beefs I got is when there is animosity towards guys who go and sell the stuff they get signed.Its almost like some of the people running the thing or even the players have a big problem with it.But I think if you had to stand in line for a while(in some cases such as Berkman or the like it could be 7 or 8 hours) then you ought to be able to do what you want with it.I wouldn't sell any of my stuff nor do I think you are really making any money off of anything when you factor in gas, the item , and how long you had to wait , but I do think there are quite a bit of folks who do it.

Don't get me wrong...I kinda don't like the guys who bring 20 family members and get a bunch of stuff signed to go sell at their store but I also think that they are the reason that its so hard to go to and the events are pretty random and spontaneous.They make it pretty tough on a normal person to go to and they also make it expensive.Especially if you drive to all of them.And most of the time you don't know in advance about things.They are pretty sneaky sometimes about posting who will be where and when.

Without resellers, I wouldn't have a lot of the big names that I do have. But they are so smarmy sometimes that I wonder why any players sign for us. I remember a guy on here that snatched a ball out a players hands because it was being personalized. He then came on here to proclaim what a tool the player was.

Sometimes fellow collectors astonish me with their greed. I guess it's the 10% rule at work. 10% of everyone you meet are greedy and will do anything to make a buck. 10% of everyone you meet are interested just in it as a hobby and would give away a Griffey, Jr. auto without blinking an eye if they thought it would be appreciated more by someone else. The other 80% fall somewhere in the middle.

Here's my deal.

I don't mind helping people get autos if I can.Sometimes I don't get a chance or if I do its only a couple.But I have tried trading before with a guy who I know is a dealer and it didn't work out so well.I don't mind paying for an auto and the item but I am not paying for your time.I wouldn't do that to one of my friends.Hey...just pay me back for the item and a few bucks for my gas.And that was kind of what this guy was supposed to be .Well...some people like to charge money per hour for standing in line.And they also, if trading, like to come out better on the deal.

The guy wanted me to go get two autographs to his one.Then when I said no thanks he wanted me to pay not only for the item but $10 an hour for him to stand in line when I know he got some extra autos so my auto was just an extra itself.I did the run around with him on the whole deal but lets just say it didn't come out well.


My idea about getting autos is I will get mine and then if I can I will get extras for people.So yeah...I guess I may look bad to the athlete at times but I am not selling my autos and I don't intend on doing it either.But there are folks out there who do nothing but that.I cannot see how you would ever make a living off of it.

I also don't care whether or not my stuff is personalized but I would prefer that it be a guy I really watch a lot of.

Some people are just greedy and that is how it goes.You have to learn to live with it.They always seem to be at every autograph session.You remember the faces and know the names.But its always good for a laugh.

I was wondering, do you wish it was an astros card instead of an index card? I don't think he has any certified astros autos, but I shop for him daily if you want me to keep an eye out for an IP.

I have a nice astros 8X10 of him, but no pic of it. I'm pretty sure that's the only Astros auto I have of his. They barely make any cards of him since he left Colorado, which honestly isn't that bad. I like it.

It doesn't overtly represent another team, so I'm not too worried about it

And I hear ya about it being good they make fewer cards. I've all but abandoned my Berkman collection because the sheer volume is too much to handle.

That's pretty sweet! And don't hesitate to post non-Astros stuff. We can appreciate other teams as long as they aren't in the NL Central.

I've got another ten card trade in the works, so it might not be too long before 300. After that it starts to get tough. A lot of guys live in the DR and don't sign TTM. These guys didn't play enough games to have a lot of autos already out there.

That's because he can't pass up an opportunity to toot his own horn. He probably said he wouldn't sign them unless the said Hall of Fame on them somewhere.

I can't stand that guy.
