I will be the first to admit, I constantly look for "undergraded" cards to buy, crack, and resubmit to BGS all the time in hopes of bumping the grade and making a little profit. Truth be told, its a pretty tough model to actually make any type of real profit and more times than not, you really don't see much of success with grade bumps from BGS.

This, however, may take the cake.

Step 1: Buy a BGS 8.5 2005 Aaron Rodgers Gold Auto SPA 25/25 for $3200 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/140645159244
Step 2: Crack out of holder
Step 3: Resubmit to BGS
Step 4: Get a BGS 9.5 2005 Aaron Rodgers Gold SPA Auto 25/25 back
Step 5: List on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123
Step 6: Profit

I'm not surprised, as the grade is just the opinion of the person doing the grade. One person might see something that another person doesn't. That's one of the many reasons why I hate graded cards and I laugh at people who spend ridiculous amounts on them.

I'm with you brother, way too subjective in my opinion.
I often wonder if a person's grades aren't pre-determined by the number of submissions they've made over the years as well.
Can't take a chance of pissing off that guy who submits thousands of cards a year you know.

I know I once had a 2007 Bowman Sterling ref auto of Jason Heyward which was marked as a 8 centering which made it a 8.5 but couldn't figure out why. I asked BGS to look at it again, and they said it was a mistake and reslabbed it as a 9.5.

The graders don't take 5 minutes per card to come up w/ the grade. A dirty loupe or scope can change your grade.

so the guy that bought it at the 8.5 graded already made 1900 on it when he busted it out and sold it raw

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Aaron-Rodg ... 2c61cdfe14

so another guy buys it at the 5200 and sends it in for grading and it is listed at 10 grand with an unexplainable 9.5 bump

1st sale 3260 (BGS 8.5)
2nd sale 5112 (RAW)
3rd sale . TBD (Laughable BGS 9.5)

But I also laugh (jealous laugh that is) that someone would put this story out there now knowing that some potential buyers know it may now be a 8.5 in a 9.5 holder. There has to be a flaw in the system, ha ha.

Devil's advocate here:

Maybe it was a crap 8.5 grade. It's hard to tell what the subs are on the 8.5, but that 8 on the corners holds it down regardless. The raw copy's corners don't look too terrible, and might be a 9 on a good day. So with that 8 on the corners gone, the total grade can come up.

OR....

BGS likes it when one of their graded cards with the current NFL MVP sells for THOUSANDS of dollars, and Donny Dip-**** dumps all his cards to Beckett upon seeing the sale. "It's all about the graded cards I guess!" says Dony

The same seller sold the raw card and the BGS 9.5. Weird. After looking at the 8.5 with the zoom, I really can't see why it would have been an 8.5. Either way, I wish I would have bought and resubmitted it.

I posted about this on the beckett forum after reading it on blowout, they closed the thread and than they banned me from the beckett boards for making accusations towards the beckett staff...

Talk about fishy....

They can't seem to handle people calling them out for very obvious flaws in their system...Instead of facing the issue they choose to hide from it

This is exactly it. If someone spends thousands of $$ each year, why wouldn't they give them better grades? Just makes good business sense.

BGS needs to add a card's serial # to the grade label on the front. That way its in their system along with the grades. Not that difficult IMO. Maybe an extra 10 seconds to the 25-30 seconds they spend on each card.

I was wondering what that was about.

The really laughable thing about this is all BGS has to do is record the serial number of each #ed card they grade, along with the grade to ensure the card retains the original grade (or lower) if resubbed. It shows how anxious they are to get the $ without covering the integrity of their product.
