I'm sure by now everybody is familiar with the "Finest Proofs" people try to sell on ebay...

You can make these at home with your favorite old finest or chrome cards, simply expose them to water. All the cardboard comes off and leaves you this neat little piece of chrome.

Now we have a guy who has figured out out to remove all but the top layer of the card...

A fellow Rickey collector and friend of mine purchased this card. It was advertised as a "negative". When my friend received the card he realized...

This is not a color negative, it is the plastic front, turned around to show the backside, washed from the regular card. It is still sticky, and has residue left on it!

He contacted the seller, the guy offered a refund...

Money will be refunded only after "positive" feedback has been left for me.

LOL. Good one! That's not the way eBay works, but I guess feel free to make insane demands like that. Anyway, I just wanted to warn everybody about these new fake Finest cards so you don't get suckered, and also watch out for eBay seller ljbiggestfan2.

Thanks!

The things people do for money. Its amazing really. This guy was a huge person on the beckett boards and is widely known in basketball communities. I may ask him a few questions if I ever see him on any of the other boards I lurk on.

I was duped as well about four months ago, five "proofs" and about $60-$70, at the time E-Bay and Pay-Pal wouldn't do anything about it. :o

Thanks for the heads up. I never even heard of the first way with the water thing. Now I have a good idea to make some money (joking of course).

Interesting stuff, good information. I saw a similar item for a Wally Joyner Pristine Legends card. Glad I passed on it

eBay does NOTHING about these... you could report them all day long and nothing ever happens.

First, let me just say that I wish they did something too. On the other hand I understand why they don't. It's not like ebay is well educated on baseball cards. It's a small part of the entire site. There's just no way they can know everything about every possible item in every category on the site.

I think down the road ebay will be more amazon like, and sell mass produced new items from dealers. Which will open the door for more auction based sites that are more specific in nature, can better regulate, and structure their fees according to the specific market.

When ebay first started it was more a yard sale/collectibles based site. Now it's no where near that. If there was a site started that was purely collectibles (not just cards, everything collectible), I think it could do well in the future with proper exposure of course.
