Another Hall of Fame Thread: Moises Alou Style

It might be hard as you initially read this thread to think "HA! Lulz!" or other similar thoughts.

However, Moises career spanned 17 years. His stat line ends like this:

36.7 Career WAR

6X All-Star, 2x Top 3 in MVP voting, finished Top 5 in batting 4x

He retired in 2008 and will be eligible beginning in 2013.

(That ballot already has Bagwell, Edgar Martinez, Piazza, Biggio and ~automatic lock, Barry Bonds.)

Moises did not reach any career milestone but his numbers are very respectable. Will that be enough to get him over the threshold?

No, I put him in the Bobby Abreu Category in that Great players for a long time but just not enough as they dint reach milestones. As sad as it might be (As I like Both Players) neither will stay on the Ballots very long.

At least most of these threads feature players who can have arguments made for them. This one... not so much. Alou was certainly much better than most will give him credit for, but he's not even CLOSE to being a HOFer.

Trying hard to make an argument for....but not seeing it. Never lead the league in anything outside of being a pretty good fielder and really good at hitting into a double play.

I honestly believe if he wasn't hurt for two whole years and didn't play during two strike-shortened seasons, he would be a HOF. He was THAT good of a hitter. That's a potential 400-450 hit boost and 65-70 HR boost which would've put him over 2,500 hits and 400 HR. So I don't think it's absurd that we discuss it, if at the very least, we recognize what a GREAT hitter he was (yes, great). He had a career .885 OPS, that's nothing to scoff at.

But not being able to stay on the field severely crippled his chances.

One thing to note is how inconsistent he could be in terms of hitting for power or average. One year the dude would hit .350 with 30 HR and then .270 with 15 HR the next. I remember him coming off two monstrous years in Houston and signing with the Cubs and thinking "man in that windy city, he's going to hit 40 HR" and his first two years he was just average...only to hit 39 HR the next year and hit like .333 the rest of his career in San Fran and New York.

Another stat I think is cool - of his 6 All-Star games, he appeared with 5 different teams. I'm not sure there is another player who made more appearances with at least that many teams.
