Here's another reason for Mets' fans and others to dislike the other NY baseball team.

Jose Reyes, who entered today with a Slight lead in the Batting Average race over Ryan Braun, asked his Manager, Terry Collins, IN ADVANCE, to remove him IF he got a hit in first AB to preserve his higher average. Weak!

He now sits at .337 and has a 3 point lead on Braun. Personally, I was already rooting for Braun, but I bet after this move by Reyes, most of America is with me.

Reyes is a potential Free Agent BTW.

And this happened exactly 70 years to the day when Ted Williams played both ends of a Double-header to hit .406 even though sitting would have kept him at .400.

What if....................

Reyes went 0-3 today and Braun took over the lead....
What are the odds Braun's manager gives him the night "off" to rest him for the playoffs?????

Its a chess game, and well played.....

I would have liked to see him stay in and play the game for his fans....

Exactly my point, especially since this MIGHT be his last game as a Met.

And to have it set in advance makes it worse IMO...

As for being from Philly, I do root for the Phillies, but I would rip any Phillies player that pulled that kind of weasel move too. I actually pull for the A's and D-Backs more than the local boys anyway.

This move is just typical of the me-first, annoying stuff the Mets players have pulled the last coupla years that make it hard for anyone, including their fans, to root for them. :?

It makes me question jose reyes ability as a leader, but I cant say I might not have done the same thing.

Im sure there's a bonus clause in his contract for winning a batting title

I saw an interview where he tries to defend the move as "doing it for the fans" and what it means to the fans for a Met to have the award....

Either way 2 at bats over the course of the year did not change history.

I went to this game today. I was sitting there wondering why the hell is Jose Reyes done for the day. I thought this was lame. He should have finished the last game of the season.

Asked more specifically about criticism of the decision to leave the game, Reyes said: "I don't care what people say. Last year I played seven innings, and in the seventh inning I came out of the game -- the last game. I don't care what people think. I was happy. I discussed it with Terry early."

It was a smart move and I don't see anything wrong with it, UNTIL you read the part that it was premeditated. That's the point that makes it a chump move.

Exactly. I wouldn't even had as big a problem if he sat the whole game out. But to make it a IF/THEN kinda thing made it worse IMO...

and Braun's 0-2 tonite now, so he's not gonna catch Reyes anyway.
