Any Josh Reddick Believers?

Reddick has been one of my favorite Georgia-boy prospects over the years, and I'm happy to see him finally getting some good at bats put together in Boston. I don't have a huge stash of his cards, but I think I've got a few base autos and some refs and maybe a blue or 2 lying around. He walked and homered tonight, and his plate discipline seems to have really improved this year. Hope he keeps it up!

I think there is. For example, when I first bought Reddick's cards about 2 years ago, I thought he had good potential, but I didn't really believe he'd have enough raw talent to force the Red Sox to keep him on and groom him into an everyday position player. I was pretty sure he'd get traded and maybe bounce around before getting a shot. Even then, I wasn't sure if he could transform himself from an overly aggressive hacker into a refined producer. At the end of last season I pretty much didn't have much "belief" in him, but I was still invested.

Edit: Every year I buy a handful of players that I don't actually believe are very good. I just see low risk buy-in mixed with good hype potential, and dump the cards as soon as prices go up. It doesn't take emotion or sentiment to invest, just a good eye.

Josh Reddick > McDonald + Cameron + Drew


He definitely worked on his plate discipline, and I hope he continues to play LF for us until Crawford comes back in which case he switches to RF. Francona has to realize that our best current lineup is when he is playing. I am glad to see him improved quite a bit since last time he has in Boston, because I saw he had a lot of potential but had to work on a few things in the minors.

Sure doesn't hurt to have four above average outfielders.

Looking at MiLB stats only, his walk rate has doubled from 7% (2007-2010) to 14% (2011). The plate discipline has really paid off as he is getting on base more and getting better pitches to hit.

He is definately my favorite of the outfield prospects. I think he'll be really good as a full time player.

He's definitely surprised me and has been very impressive since being called up. Unfortunately, I have a feeling he will be trade bait. The Sox are in similar situation as what happened a few years ago, when they had Murphy, Moss, and Ellsbury as outfield prospects. They need bullpen help and no one's gonna want to trade for an injured Ryan Kalish. Then again, I've been wrong before and could be wrong again.

They need bullpen help and no one's gonna want to trade for an injured Ryan Kalish. Then again, I've been wrong before and could be wrong again.

Well, the Braves and Nationals both need young, productive outfielders. I'd love to see Reddick go to Atlanta. Do you think Epstein would let him go for Mike Minor? He'd be an immediate bullpen arm, with the potential to slide into the rotation if needed.

minor for reddick is a reasonable trade.

i dont know much about how boston views doubront but i gotta believe a healthy doubront is a strong bullpen option.

Either one, doesn't matter to me. From what I've been reading, I think the Braves are inclined to trade Minor, but who knows. Prado in left, Reddick in center, and Heyward in right would be a good setup. Especially if Reddick and Heyward could put together some .280+ w/ 20-30 HR 90+ RBI seasons in a row, which I think both could be capable of in a few years.

I think Jordan Schafer is pretty solid to be honest. I know he's had issues but he's played well this year.

Hopefully Francona realizes that outfield reserves such as McDonald and Cameron do not equate to a winning team when they are in the lineup.

Minor's 1.5 career WHIP isn't pretty, but neither is Reddicks .635 career OPS. Both guys have potential, and both guys could turn out to be studs. They just aren't there yet.
