Any thoughts of an FCB Hall of Fame like the old BMB?

I thought of this the other day when I saw the voting for best products and so forth...

Has there been any thought as to whether this board should start this old tradition here? Not that I'm getting elected or anything, but it always seemed like a great way to reward great members for being great.

If it was done, perhaps a little icon could be placed under the name to note the accomplishment.

We could even have a big contest night to celebrate the honorees each year too just for fun.

Just a thought....and who knows, maybe I am the only who would even care to see this again.

We all know who the Hall of Fame members are on this board. No need to have an official list

To be honest, the BMB hall of Fame was one thing I never really liked. Just seemed like a waist of time to me. We all know who the great members are, and I see no reason or need to solidify it with some self indulgent baseball card message board award.

Just my 2.

I know it was mentioned in the thread nominating products of the year and people (including CGilmo I believe) felt that the hierarchy was one of the biggest negatives to the old BMB. Personally I think the HOF was a fun idea, and worked really well with only the most helpful, friendly members getting in (I did not know some of the earlier members so I may be wrong on some, but I know that the one's I knew from the earlier years were all class acts.) This meant that the HOF people were (almost) never part of the problem. Later some people got in who were more polarizing. Again, I wouldn't mind something similar, I think it was fun.

Yeah, I know when I was a new member on the BMB, it was nice to know that some members were seen as very dependable. I don't recall seeing any drama with people but maybe that all happened before I got there.

I always thought it was fun and it made me aware of who all the great members were.

I was a HOF member on the BMB, and although I didn't get the promised doughnuts, a payraise or anyting else, it was nice to have been recognized by fellow members. I think it was because I created the old checklist...

Another poster in this thread said that there is already enough drama, and perhaps that says it all; I know that the person that hosts the election deserves an award of their own, and it was a huge p.i.t.a. every year, and caused a lot of bad feelings.

There are certainly a lot of quality members here, and other members know who they are.

I think the HOF would be a lot of fun. I think that if it were to be done on here that there would need to be clear and concise rules/requirements that are followed.

I agree with Moonlight that it's nice to be recognized by your peers. True, it is only a message board, but a lot of people spend a lot of time here and try and help this place in whatever ways they can. I also think it would be cool to have an avatar, listing beneath screen name, or something to put in your signature to show. I also think it would help with new members because it would potentially give them someone else who is seen as "trustworthy" or "dependable" to go to (besides Mods/Admin) if they have any questions or need any help. It also may serve as something to help promote being a positive addition to the community as it may be something that people may want to try and achieve.

On the other hand, on the BMB there were HOF members who thought that by being in the HOF that their **** didn't stink. They took being in the HOF as a license to do what they want and to treat others members poorly.

I honestly believe that it could work. I think a nomination and voting process by the general board would have to happen, but that the Mods/Admin could also step in and nominate if they feel someone was overlooked. They could even strike a member from the ballot if they felt the person was underserving. These are just ideas. Maybe they could help in some way or another.

If this ever gets the go ahead, I would be willing to help out whoever takes on this task.

No matter how you slice it, or how many rules you try and put to it, it will always boil down to a popularity contest. And do we really need another place where the popular are segregated from the heard? Cant we all be happy as equal card collectors and let actions speak louder than awards? Can we not let new members formulate there own opinions as we all have done??

Gilmore already said no way on member awards... and he's right. Now yearly product awards would be cool though.

Never knew he said that. My bad.

I was just thinking of it and thought I would mention it. This can be deleted if necessary.

I'd hate to see a HOF on this board. Like I mentioned before, it is nice to think we're all equal and on the same page here. The only way to earn respect and some note here is to let time get you that recognition and reputation. I don't think we really need titles.

If you spend some time here, it really isn't that hard to figure out who's who.

Man that brings back memories... I see a lot of names of people I wish would migrate to this board... I can't believe I even put Chipmaker on it; it must have been before he called me a knuckle-dragging neanderthal. He didn't like Republicans.

I thought you were busting out into a rhyme there, AKA.

Ehh, you know what he's saying
He won't mind displaying
The honor and title
For which he is praying
He thinks that he's earned
It's time that he learned
He'd better watch himself
Or he's gonna get burned

:)
