Since ebay striving to get sellers to offer free shipping. I've gotten like 7 PWE's in my last 10 packages.

Now I'm not one that really cares if my card comes in a PWE. If it comes here as the it was described, I'm happy.

But with the buyer having all the power on ebay, especially in terms of leaving feedback, and knowing how anal some collectors are about PWE (whether the card comes in pristine condition or not) - it strikes me as odd that sellers would risk this.

For an even moderately valuable card, I would be leery of bidding on/buying a card with free shipping. I would assume that it was going to be a PWE.

As a seller, I would never risk sending a card that way.

Yeah I don't mind PWE and I really only use them to send one card to board members and that's if they know its coming.

Just seems with how much sellers are getting screwed over lately by ebay, that sending a PWE to anybody is tying a steak around your waist and running through the lion's den.

I don't buy nearly as much as I used to, but I haven't gotten any PWEs in the last 2 months at least. I've gotten a lot of bubble mailers hand written without any DC, but no PWEs.

The only times that PWE get on my nerves are when the card shows up damaged, or I pay 3.00 for shipping and get a PWE. Whenever I sell something that is going to get 50 bucks or more, I offer free shipping to attract more people, but I describe in my auctions that I will ship with bubble mailer.

Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this lately. Today, I got one in a PWE with a semi-rigid holder. Card was perfect, though, so no problem.

Yes, I'm getting PWEs more than before. Seems like a natural progression considering ebay's changes. I'm cool with it until I get burned. Then I'll bitch. :benson:

Luckily, I'm currently only after some graded T206 cards and the dealers don't sent that way.

In the past though, I never had an issue. I did have past issues with people putting cards into top loaders too thick for the card and the card out of the top loader when I get it. These were in bubble mailers. I have seen some cards delivered in PWE's that actually had some care given in the packing that pretty much made it difficult for anything to happen.

As long as I get what I paid for, I'm cool with it.

Too many PWE and too many sellers charging regular shipping for it, I call them all out on it

With ebay wanting us sellers to charge nothing for shipping, I can see why it is happening more frequently. I do charge for shipping but I lose mooney on every package I ship. I charge $2.00 for domestic shipping. It costs me $1.75 through paypal to ship 1-3 cards depending on the size of the card. I only charge $2.00 to protect my DSR. I find it very odd that some buyers leave bad ratings for sellers that charge $3.00 for shipping. I used to charge $3.00 and would regularly get killed on my DSR. I think $3 is fair. Most buyers only think of the cost of shipping and don't factor in the handling or the cost of shipping supplies. I don't know why ebay hasn't come up with a standard shipping charge across the board. It would save a lot of issues and would help protect the sellers that bring them all their money. But you and I both know ebay doesn't give 2 shats about the sellers.
-end rant

Shouldn't cost any more than $.10 for supplies. If you are spending more than $.25 for a bubble envelope, toploader, penny sleeve and team bag, you are buying them from the wrong people.

Also ebay would be unable to come up with standard shipping prices considering people sell billions of unique items. There is no way any company could come up with a proper list.

Other costs you have not factored in:
Printer ink, shipping lable, gas(for the drive to the post office), and my time. If minimum wage is $8.00 an hour, if it only took me 1 minute to ship a card, that would be another 13 cents alone!

Also if you want you could also factor in the cost of the printer, computer, and monthly internet charges. On top of that ebay is now charging fees on shipping so that factors in to the equation too. All of these things are used when shipping an item.

I thought maybe they could have shipping charges for each unique category. I understand it would be difficult. But it seems like they do many difficult things to screw the seller, maybe they could do one thing to help us out.

I got a lot of PWEs with all the dollar BINs Ive gotten. But as long as they were in toploaders, the cards arrived perfectly fine. Granted, if I were the seller, I would list in the auction that a PWE would be used. I could never assume that the seller would pay a buck and a half for shipping and a bubble mailer for a card I only paid one dollar for.

I use Bubble mailers on the bulk cards I have sent, and I always checked with the buyer ahead of time if a PWE would be ok for a single card - And I put em in toploaders, not just penny sleeves.

I think it's ironically funny if people will complain about buying a card for $10 and paying $3 and it arrives in a PWE, but they won't complain about paying $13 for the same card and it arrives in a PWE.

And I would be one of those who complain and dinged DSR's for shipping costs. I'm all for the seller making a few cents to help with his profit, and I'm well aware of the shipping cost at the time of purchase, but paying $3 for a .44 cent stamp isn't what was advertised.

Ebay new fee structure is going to mean more sellers will send small flat items via PWE, which is going to cause headaches for those sellers.

And their shopping cart is a joke, if I'm understanding it correctly. Sure, it's easy to click a bunch of BINs and just get one total. But say you're buying 10 items from 5 different sellers. There's no way you will be paying less than if you bought from those sellers directly and got combined shipping. Seller is happy - profits on the combined shipping items paid at full shipping per item. Ebay is happy - profits from fees on 10 factored-in shipping charges. Buyer is oblivious that he just wasted $10 of not more. . . .
