I've always wanted to buy a lot for at least a couple G's, break it up individually and sell it, as I'm sure many of us have. So has anybody actually done it with any success? Come on, we all love stories :D

I have never done it with a lot that cost that much. But I bought a lot of USA autos, 26 I think. Was able to give some away as contest prizes, keep a couple for PC, and sell the rest to make about 250-300% profit.

I bought a lot of 380 autos/GU for a little over $700. I think after selling the decent cards I had made around $350 and still had 40-50 cards that I sold as a lot for $30.

It's just a matter of having the time to sort and being able to wait on the payment.

In 2008 I bought a lot from REA of 190 Musial autos ranging from signed 8x10 to baseballs to cards to books, etc. Lot cost me about $3600. I have sold off 150+ items with an after fees profit of $1500+. If I were to sell off the other 40 items we would be talking about a profit in the neighborhood of $2500+ but I bought the lot to keep some of these items and to sell off what I did.

I buy lots very frequently. I think the most I've paid is like $1500 though. I usually buy a few lots around like, $250, $500, $700 and slowly break them up. I do very well usually. Lot breakup is where eBay stores come in very handy.

A few years ago I used to buy lots all the time to break up and resell. It's harder to do now because more people are aware of it and the profit margin is less. You can still make money if you know what you're doing, though. What I found was that the best lots to buy were those that ended for about $100-300. I bought some that were $1K+, but they take more time and I didn't make much extra profit for all that work. You also don't want to buy lots where most of the value is in either a few big cards or lots of cheap cards. I did best with the cards that sold for $5-40. I didn't even bother with the cheap jerseys. I'd sell what I could one by one, and then all the cheap GU cards would go in one lot. I'm sure there's money to be made off them, because whoever buys an auction of 100+ cheap jerseys is probably doing it for resale.
