As many know, I love to bust older wax.
I love this set not for the Pujols or the Ichiro but for the design!
1981 Fleer was a great set and it takes me back. This is a pattern for me as I love the older reto sets like Donruss Originals and Topps All Time Fan Favorites.
Anyway, I see that Series 2 of Platinum, The Rookie Series, has a Hobby Rack Pack box and a regular Hobby box.
They are different in price and I am wondering why?
Since both are Hobby, I can't imagine there being a major difference.

Info needed, please. :D

Definitely has something to do with the number of GU/Autos per box. The racks had a guaranteed auto or GU in each pack. I don't recall exactly which GU sets that included, but jbrown probably has it right.

If I remember correctly, the racks each guarenteed a GU. All of the racks I busted had one of this set.

I opened a shitload of the Rookie Series. My favorite part of the product was that you received 2 update cards from other products per box as well.Tons of Ichiro and Pujols possibilities there.I have near complete set if any one if looking for one.It is only missing 5 or 6 sp's.

And yes racks are more expensive because they had a hit per pack.

I remember when the Mark Prior was supposed to be an SP like the other rookie/first year cards in the set, but somehow wasn't and a Freddy Garcia Highlight card was SP'd instead. I must have a dozen Prior cards, and never saw one of the Garcias. Fun stuff back in the day, though.

I think this was the first set with SPs I ever attempted once I got back into collecting. I loved it.

This is how I remember them as well. I busted several of them as well and got numerous of those but was lucky enough to get one of these back then.

I bust a ton of that back then. Still have a couple sets left, but none of the SP's any more. I pulled a Mike Mussina GU that wasn't intended to be released, got a write up in Beckett about it (they still list in the guide every month). Sold it for $400.

Back in 2001 I was busting anything I could get my hands on and wasn't exactly into prospects. I really enjoyed Fleer Platinum. I'm sure I've got them all in a box somewhere in my basement.
