If it was an actual pop-up I wonder if I was getting the same thing. It was weird cause it was only on a few listings when it happened. Pop-up blocker asked if I wanted to allow a dowload from Ebay. Forget what it was exactly, just remember it had "tag" somewhere in it.

If it's an actual pop-up, or asking to download something, then I would question it. But if it's just the ad screen after logging in, it's probably just a reminder.

I just found the listing and it's "ietag.dll". Doubt it has anything to do with the op/topic. Now I'm curious why it's only on this seller's items. Tried it on 6-7 of his listings and I get the same thing.

Is it an actual "pop up" window, or just on the "ad" screen that pops up just about every time you log in?

Ebay owns paypal, so they're probably just giving reminders to get the info in, so that they don't have to track everyone down at the last minute.

I got an email about 2 weeks ago to get my info in. I went to paypal and checked, and it had a message that I was lacking the info. I entered it and all is well, and I'm nowhere near either limit.

Everything isn't a "phishing" email. Everyone knows paypal is needing to gather this info. Just go provide it and be done with it. Or quit using Paypal. Those are your choices.

it wasn't a pop-up i just couldn't describe it any better, it was the intermittent ad screen going from logging in then to my ebay. this is what i dont understand about all of this. the IRS regulation had nothing to do with ebay sales, it had to do with the amount of transactions or dollar amount that had been run through your paypal account. so i dont understand how they can limit or cancel your ebay auctions when, the whole concept of the IRS thing has nothing to do with ebay.

Since ebay owns them, I'm sure it's of their benefit to advertise that you need to get the info in. They're probably using every avenue they can to get the word out. If they want to limit your auctions, or whatever, then they can.

If you haven't put the info in yet, then why not? You know you'll have to, so what's the difference? Whether or not it's right is moot at this point. It's a new provision of using paypal that everyone will have to do now. Either comply with it or stop using it.
