I have had my eyes on him since 2007 BDP came out and have been very pleased with his performance this year. He's already 5-1, ERA under 4, and in 5 of his 7 starts, he has given up 2 runs or less.

I know in BAPH they suspect he could be trade fodder in the fall due to the crowding of the Chicago pitching staff. I'm curious as to what the future holds for this guy. I think BAPH is right when they say he does nothing but win.

Just curious if this guy was on anyone else's radar too...

He is a mirror image of Kevin Brown and if you want another pitcher that is just like him in the minors is Ryan Pope of the Yankees. Nice slow tempo that also reminds me of Roy Oswalt minus the violent jerk at the end.

I picked up his Gold Refractor in a lot with a bunch of other stuff for $8-$10 last year. That lot made me some serious cash, I forget what else was in it but I remember it was nice. I think I got around $25 for the Gold?

Yeah, his golds and orange were pretty affordable there for awhile. I've picked up some of his stuff over time and never had to spend a lot to get it thankfully.

I have a small stash of his stuff and have been paying some attention. His stuff is so cheap it a low risk investment to pick up some of his stuff right now

People barely pay attention to Aaron Poreda, so why would they pay attention to Ely, who's an inferior prospect?

You can still get a red for $100.

Agreed. He hasn't really even been impressive. A .293 BAA in double A isn't very good.

I don't think Ely is even in the top 100 pitchers in the Minors.

I have a small stash of Ely simply because when looking up Poreda and checking out Winston Salem last year he impressed me. Affordable guy but not a whole lot of upside with the Sox. If he gets traded there is some more potential.

I've been trying to figure out where he would go if traded. If the Sox are not contenders in the fall, there is no reason to move him. If they were contending, he could get moved to a team that's not contending since that said team would likely be moving a star. While I think he is potential trade bait, I can't see a reason why they would move him if they aren't contending unless they are getting someone with multiple years left on a contract to help them next year.

Well, Ely was dominating, but as I was typing this Wellington Castill just mashed a long homerun.

However, Ely looks really good. His curve/off speed stuff is nasty and made several batter look foolish.
