I was looking at Walter Johnson autos on the bay and noticed that his 2001 SP cut is #ed to 113. Damn, they loaded that product! Jackie Robinson is #ed to 147, Dimaggio to 150, etc.

So how many cuts were seeded per case? I don't buy wax, but this seller has three boxes and this would be a fun bust to be sure (though the seller most likely saved them from cases where the cut(s) were already pulled, no?)

That's a crazy nice Wagner.

#ed to 24! We will never see another product like that again.

Cut autos were exactly one per case, I would say 99.9% of loose boxes out there have no cuts in them- you should always buy sealed cases of legendary cuts, especially the earlier issues.

I doubt you will be able to find a sealed case of 2001 for anywhere near a reasonable price- It'll be 3500++, if you can find one. They will surface every few years, and they are certainly rare.

I opened 11 cases and got 11 cuts.

Very good to know, thanks

Did you bust all of those in 2001? What did cases cost then? And what was the best cut you pulled?

from what i remember being told a while back is that the cut was always in the same location of the case so case searching was very easy to do. that being said i would never buy a loose box of 01 SPLC.

I busted them all in 2001. I paid between $70-$90 per box for each 14 box case.

My first cut auto ever was Johnny Van der Meer/65. Would sell for about $20-$40 today out of the current product, though back then it fetched $200.

My best cut was Ken Keltner/11. It sold for as high as $1600 back in the day, I believe (yes, set builders were insane back then).

I also pulled cuts of Earl Averill, Joe Dimaggio x 2, Edd Roush, Joe Sewell, Luke Appling, Lefty Gomez, and Joe Mccarthy.

I also pulled a cut of Waite Hoyt, and that was my best case from the product cause the game used was loaded. In that very same case, I pulled short print jerseys of Dimaggio, Mantle, Maris and Babe Ruth. It was a truly loaded Yankee case.

I also pulled the Ty Cobb jersey as well as the Honus Wagner.

Plus, I pulled the impossible to find Tommy Davis bat card.

I did get one dual bat/25, the Bobby Doerr and Joe Cronin.

Those were the fun days......

The cut was NOT always in the same place, but I know a lot of folks who would bust till they hit the cut, then resell the loose boxes back to dealers- and these are likely the ones you find for sale today.
