He likes all kind of foods. Especially Mexican food. I'm just looking for things to do and great places to eat on his 2 day pass. I've been googling and we are definitely going to check out the national infantry museum. I just want him to have a blast since he gets a small break from basic training.

There isn't that much to do in Columbus itself. It's actually a pretty big hunting/fishing area, which is what I think many people who live there do for entertainment. Realtree camo company is based there. The downtown River Walk area is reasonably nice and has some restaurants and bars. There are some movie theaters in town also. It's a decent sized town, but there arent too many "attractions"

There are plenty of good restaurants in town, but not many great ones. If he wants Mexican, Viva El Toro has decent food and an all you can eat buffet. I'd probably recommend El Carrizo Mexican Restaurant, which is on Macon Road near the Hobby Lobby. If you don't mind a chain steakhouse, I've always had pretty good luck with the Texas Roadhouse there. The Bonefish Grill is pretty good. If you want to go high end, I recommend Meritage. There's a Five Guys in town for burgers. If you want some good old fashioned southern soul food, you need to try out Minnie's Uptown Restaurant for lunch. Woodstone Restaurant is also good and very affordable for lunch. Dinner gets expensive, though. Country's is the local favorite BBQ joint. If you go there, I recommend the chicken fingers or fried chicken, which are excellent. They have fresh veggies too, which is nice. Avoid the beef briscut, which tends to be too fatty half the time. The fries there aren't that great either. Deorios is a solid Italian restaurant. There's a decent Japanese restaurant, the Fuji Japanese Steakhouse that does the whole cooking spiel in front of you (you can also order out of the kitchen). The entrees are good, though I wasn't impressed with the sushi. For sushi, I'd go to Wasabi restaurant. Chef Lee's is the favorite for Chinese (good but nothing special). Columbus also has some good Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai restaurants that are affordable. If you want breakfast, go to The Egg and I. All the major chains are in Columbus as well (Outback, Red Lobster, TGIF, Longhorn, Smokey Bones, Carrabas, Olive Garden; etc.)
