I have a lot of trade offers for a 1973 Topps Carl Yastrzemski. Probably the best one is a 1956 Topps Wally Westlake. The others are pretty lame (1987 Rafael Palmeiro). Would you do that trade? I'm thinking about it.

To me, that's pretty close on the Yaz and Westlake. Neither is a high dollar card, and even though Yaz is a HOFer, '56s are nice additions.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Neither being high dollar, but if I can get a high grade on the 1956, I think it would be worth it. The only thing I'm thinking is will the 1973 Yaz with a high grade be more desireable than a '56 common high grade?
I wouldn't be thinking "high grade" on any of these.

BINGO! +1

No dummy..."dadofandrew" is "dadofandrew" on here. Duh!

Some of us non-creative types didn't stray too far from our regular online names. I think mine is..."200lbhockeyplayer."

I have been doing well with trades. I hope to continue doing more. I am, as you see, going for as many 55s as I can get. I have about 23% of the set so far :) This is fun!

But why stop at the 55s. I'm going after 56s too! I have about 18% of this one so far.

I think people who don't collect might have jumped on some of the redemptions to try it out and even though they got old cards from the 50s, they may desire stuff from the 80's more because they are players that they recognize and can relate too. How else do you explain this deal I just did: A 1955 Chuck Bishop for a 1988 Paul Molitor, 1989 Paul Molitor, 1989 Nolan Ryan and a 1987 Dwight Gooden (which I then traded the Bishop for a 56 Dickson since it was a duplicate). I mean, I'll do that kind of a deal all year long! Maybe I should be wishing for 80s cards with the redemptions :)

Is there any type of stamp on these cards to differentiate them from regular cards? What's to say I don't just trade a bunch of 78 topps or other years already in my collection? Are they similar to the 59 topps buybacks that could be pulled out of heritage in the past as box toppers?

They are not stamped. They are the same cards you'd find anywhere else. I personally think part of the allure is having no idea what kind of condition they are going to be in. I recall the A&G buybacks being in very very nice condition for cards that were printed in the late 1800's or early 1900s - whatever it was. Of course, they were not sportscards, but still. It will be interesting to see if they made an effort to get stuff in decent shape or will it all be creased and beat. The sample images they are using are generally in nice shape.

As for trading your 78s - you cannot trade cards that are not in the Topps portfolio and you have to pull those in your account via redemption cards and then trade to acquire what others have already redeemed. You can't offer up stuff not in the account. Of course, that said, if you can identify who the people with accounts are, you can make any offer you want. I have done a couple deals already that have entailed me trading a junk card for what I want with the promise of sending some stuff in the mail to people for their collections. That works just as well for me.

you guys are doing great so far I have onyl been able to do 1 trade and it was for a 1978 Tommy Lasorda. I am trying get Fernando's rookie cards also been trying to get Gil Hodges, Campy, Podres, and some of the other Dodgers I have always grown up hearing about. I have a couple nice cards but nothing I have got so far is really worth anything. I think my best card so far is:

J.W. Porter 1958
J.W. Porter - Outfield - Detroit Tigers
Card Number:32A
Series: Topps Series 1

which was a pretty nice pull I have been trying to trade it for a Dodger in a simular year but no luck so far..

just redeemed 4 more and best card I got was a 1989 Rodger Clemens ::facepalm::

Man it would not be so bad if I could at least get a Dodger every now and then so far I have redeemed 19 code and only got 1 dodger ( Rick Monday 1983). Topps is way to smart for me I know I am not going to get anything good but I keep coming back for more LOL
