I own a grocery store and almost took all the Hostess products off the shelves yesterday since I figured there would be some nuts paying crazy prices on ebay. I decided against it since I figured I'd let my customers have a chance at a box or two of their favorites. I get to the store this morning and the rack is completely wiped out (except for mini donuts and cinnamon rolls). Some guy came in first thing and bought every box to sell on ebay. Guess I should have just taken them off the shelf myself.

People sure are stupid. There will be Twinkies on the shelf within 3-6 months. Another bakery will buy the Hostess name and recipe very soon. Then they will be made in non-union states and everybody will be able to kill themselves with these tasty treats again.

These sales are almost sad. I'm all for making some coin, but people who feel the need to pay 10-20x the price need to reevaluate their priorities.

I'm hoping people are buying them more for a collectible thinking it will be worth $$$ later, then cause they need to eat them that bad. Wal mart makes off brand Twinkie's that are pretty much the same thing, better than $50 a box... Lol

A local bakery (Holsum) is getting closed. I am more sad about the jobs being lost than the possibility of losing snacks. In my opinion - Twinkies taste "chemically". They haven't been "good" for 20 years.

Like said before, the brand will be purchased, and Twinkies will get remade. I expect many of these sales will go unpaid and get closed.

Also. It amazes me there are people out there that don't want an extra $3 out of their paycheck to help government assistance programs for people that are LOSING JOBS over this... but those same people are wanting to pay 10+ times market price for Twinkies.

Actually, many of those who are losing jobs where also the ones who chose to strike and leave the company in a position where there was no turning back and liquidation was the only option.

I've noticed that too. There's a definite chemical taste to a Twinkie these days, and it made me stop eating them. I don't remember that artificial taste years ago, but that just be my younger mind speaking.
