(Updated to ask if anyone still collects his stuff.) Back From the dead.

Barry Zito.

He was once one of the best pitchers in ALL of baseball, and the last few years he's been mostly a joke.

Check his numbers the last 13-16 starts. (3 months)

He's been the Zito of old, I had no idea this was happening.

1.92 ERA since the All Star Break?

Really? Barry Zito?

Anyone else notice that there have been roughly a dozen "This GUY is back" threads?

:P

I used to like Zito, so it's neat to see. And I'm pulling for the Giants this year too, so that helps.

Yeah, i was playing on the theme. But i think this one is legit. He was actually one of the top 2 or 3 best, most desireable pitchers (by GM's and Prospectors) in the world, and then he completely imploded.

He was obviously a guy who played baseball because he was good at it and not because it was the first love of his life. In all his interviews it was obvious that he was more into his music, and being generally eccentric.

I think when the fearsome threesome started to break up in Oakland, he lost interest in being the best he could be.

I hope he's found a reason to be great again, because he's truly amazing to watch when he's on.

Anyone notice how good Jonathan Sanchez has been since his No-no? I think he waited until I had sold every one of his cards to be good again.

He has a 2.61 ERA and 11.03 K/9

Good to see Barry doing well again. Have liked following his career since he first appeared.

Re: Anyone notice this guy is "Back" ?

The past few starts he would only last 6 full innings but would never give up more than 1 run in the game. Yesterday he pitched 8 1/3 but could've gone the entire way (Bochy   )

His curveball was amazing and what made it better than usual was his velocity. Throughout the season it was sitting at 69-72. On the radar gun he had hit 75-77 so the snap and break was a bit faster. He seemed very balance and calm in his motion (especially out of the stretch) and was able to hit all his targets. What he really has changed since last year was locating his fastball inside against right handed pitching.

Oh his fastball was at 88, 89, 90 last night as well :o

*Raises hand*

I have been collecting him since '04.

I only have one copy of each of his rookie autos aside from SPX, I think I have 25 of those or so.

I have him in most all of my fantasy league's & noticed early on the possibilities & sign's of a resurgence, but saying that, I also have noticed he's been "up & down" (though he's played pretty well, he has also struggled). He compares thus far with Doug Davis (another pitcher whom I've picked up on the cheap in fantasy) & I don't see anyone giving praise to Davis...but that may have to do with Davis being with "lowly" Arizona (a team with basically no shot to get in the playoffs) & Zito being with San Fran (a team who's surprised everyone this year & looks to make the playoff's)- as the Giants have been getting ESPN "face-time" while the Diamondbacks aren't even receiving "tweet's" from thier home-town newspaper's! :D

In 23 of his 27 starts this year the Giants have scored 3 runs or less. He's actually been a very good pitcher this year excpet for his rough first few starts and that rough patch before the AS game.
