I won 1 and lost 1 (by one $100 bid increment - damn live auctions, I would have bid again). Will wait until there are some responses before I post what I won (and yes, it's hard for me to hold back the excitement, as it's one of those "knock your socks off" type items).

Struck out in the pre-bidding on the one item I was interested in- can't wait to see your pick-up Sean!!

Sorry you lost out in the pre-bidding. There were a few items I had tried for then, but bidding was spirited there on Monday, so I had to focus on 2 items. Here is the item I lost out on:

http://www.huntauctions.com/LIVE/imageviewer.cfm?auction_num=37&lot_num=457&lot_qual=

I was the high bidder going into the live bidding, but ended up losing it for $100 over my max. I would have gone to 2300, but who knows if that would have won it. Oh well. I hope whoever wins it sends it in for slabbing.

The lot I won:

The pre-auction estimate was $3-5K, but I was able to win it with a bid of $2800. The combination of Ruth with a period Williams signature was something that I did not want to miss out on (not sure why Mantle was added to it, but I'm not going to argue). This is now my third Ruth signature, and I do have to say this replaces my Ruth / Gehrig as my favorite.

Although I myself would have love to have that 500 Club Bat auto card instead that Ruth/Teddy Ball is just awsome :o, Great great pick up! Youll have to give us scans of the whole ball all the way around to show the other autos when you get it in.

Oh trust me, I wanted to win both, and came pretty darn close. One interesting thing I found about the "game" on Baseball Almanac:

"Did you know that on July 28, 1943, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams had a home run hitting contest at Yankee Stadium? The contest was part of a charity day for the Red Cross and the benefit raises more than $30,000. Ruth, who was hobbling around on a bad knee, lost the long ball competition to Williams who went deep three times."

That is cool, making that ball a real piece of history (not that it wasnt in the first place), Even losing the Williams you still won big!

Indeed. Plus I feel like I got it at a great price (I love being able to pick up interesting items without having to overpay).

That's an insane steal. I got lazy and did not look at the auction listings this time around, or I definitely would have thrown out a bid on that one.

I had a bid in on that one, but figured I'd rather have the 500 HR club and had to focus on one or the other.

Maine of course......
Superb!!! I of course love anything w/ Ted but a Ted and Babe auto.- does not get much better than that. Hunt also has another great web auction going on now as well!!
