This couldn't be any truer.
You have no idea how many people want me to look at their collections and tell them if they have anything good.
I immediately ask them what years, and if they say late 80's-mid 90's, I tell them they are not worth anything.
I also set up at shows and it is amazing what comes in the shows. I had a guy come in with suede baseball hat signed by Walter Payton. Keep in mind, the hat had nothing to do with football, racing, or the Bears. It reeked like smoke from his house and he wanted to sell it for $400. I had to decline the offer and I told him I would't even give him $50 for it, needless to day he was not happy with that answer and left the show later with the hat in his hand.

I get that a lot too. Someone in my family says "Come on down and tell me what these cards are worth!" And I hate to tell them they are worthless, because they are my family. "I hope you didn't pay much.." is usually my reply. They get it.

On a past Pawn Stars episode, a Woman brought in a collection of old Playboy's and sold them for next to nothing. I thought she got taken but after reading the article, she got a fair deal.
I thought these old Playboy mags were worth some money.
