Are anyone else's card shops extremely overpriced?

Sometimes I don't like these rookie card sets, you need to sit on them forever, maybe i should just put it away for another five years and see what happens.

These red reflectors sure are pretty, though, aren't they?

Only 2 stores left in my area. One store I only buy supplies at because the wax selection and prices stink, other place is less than a mile from my house and I havent been in since '06. Sucks because that store has a great selection of wax but the way he prices products is laughable. The guy has a single low, medium, and high price that applies to everything so all single packs were either 5, 7, or 11 dollars and the same goes for box pricing.

One of the shops in town just recently shut down, and now there's only one left.

I guess you can only get so far selling 2007 bowman draft boxes for $110, and 2008 bowman chrome for $79.
hmm are you the one with the longoria red reflector auto?

Hi, I'm just a newbie, but I did dig into my shoebox and was wondering if you were talking about this?:

I've been out of baseball cards for two years, has this guy done anything yet? Which minor league team is he on now? Someone told me he may be good some day, so I put it away in the garage. It's a bit warped from the heat, but still in mint condition. I hear a lot of people are grading cards these days, do you think it would do good?

Anyone seen his superreflector yet?

The superreflector is in a good home and won't see the light of day for awhile

I think I might have the worst shop around. It is called vintage stock. The deall in games, comics, cards, and other random items.

2008 bowman = $130 (not the jumbo)

Every box in the store is 300%+ markup of ebay prices.

The worst thing about it is that the boxes do not age down. They have a tin of 2005 ud hof that is priced at $180. I have been here for about 2 years and it has not moved. I am not sure if they ever sell any wax at the store.

Might actually be a good thing since, if prices were decent I might consider buying wax. Now I just buy nolan ryan cards and am sure for the amount of money that would be wasted on wax I could pickup a bunch of nice ryans.

Wow, did the guy who pulled it keep it? or was it purchased? I've never seen it on ebay, and I would love to know about it's whereabouts.

If this is true, I guess i can stop cracking 06 bowman draft- but then again, i've never seen the travis snider super-reflector either! :D

WOW!? I figured the card shop guys to be on par to try to stay in business w/ Ebay and other online places!
WELL THEN, IF ANYONE is driving on I-70 EAST or WEST through Kansas, you MUST and I MEAN MUST stop in Salina and go to The Arena on Santa Fe St. Todd is the owner, he is on odd gentleman, but I have NEVER had issues with him. He is on Ebay, buys and sells movies and games, has tables set up in the back for the kids who play Magic, etc and is always wheelin' and dealin' with them as well. He has some comics, but doesn't deal with them much. I don't buy boxes from him, but I've heard he is VERY fair-priced.
I get deals from him all the time on singles though, he has TONS of G/U and Auto's he charges $5 a piece for or not much more. Example a Ken Griffey Jr G/U Short Print card BV $20, one he asked only $5 for. He has a box of card that I add to that he holds for me no questions asked. I've traded him movies and games for cards in my box. Next time I go in I'll ask for prices on those boxes the OP mentioned, but I would bet money he charges a lot less. Todd is a really good guy!

I have two shops in the city where I live and at one shop I know the owner pretty well so he will give me pretty good deals on wax and singles. The owner of the other shop will look up what singles are going for on Ebay and then give you that price, however his wax prices are a little higher

But overall I wouldn't say either shop is "overpriced"

I just moved To vegas, stopped by a shop In Henderson and saw he had 07 draft but no loose packs. Said he couldn't open it so I got 4 packs of 08. 5 a piece but he gave me a pack for free since He couldn't open the box. Hit a longoria Chrome auto while I was busting outside, went back in to buy a one touch. Again gave it to me on the house if I let him see what card it was. Wax was pretty cheap too, needless to say I will go back.

The two local shops I got to I feel are about par for the course as far as pricing goes.

The nearest shop to me in Greenville is a tad pricey on singles and the selection is at best a C grade. The wax prices are a tad overpriced for the older stuff. Owner is still charging around 75 bucks for a box of Bowman Chrome baseball. The newer stuff like Razor is at 115 a box and BDP is at 80. Its not too bad and the guy deals in higher end wax.

The other shop I go to, which is my pick for shops to go to, is better priced on wax. BDP boxes are about 80 bucks there and I normally get them for a tad bit less. Sports Legens is at 99, Threads baseball is at about 90 and Leaf Limited football this year was at about 145. Not too bad and if you want to deal a little, the owner will come down. He has a pretty good selection of inserts and singles and his game used and auto section is pretty damn nice. He has some harder to find pieces too and the other half of the shop is a fully stocked candy store so if you get a hankering for a little snack, he has it all and cold drinks to boot.

The supplies pricing is about the same for both shops and appears to be par for the course. You can get 3 packs of regular toploaders for about 6 bucks, and the one touches range between $1.50 and $2.50 depending on thickness and whether you buy the new UV protectant one touches.

Yes and that is why I no longer go. I am on 5 weeks, which is a record for me. Where I work there is one within 5 minutes walking

It is so tempting.
