I know sellers who will sit on a card forever. They will get what they want eventually. Most make enough money of their other sales to not worry about the expensive stuff.

My papa once told me "You can always lower a price but you can never raise it".

As goofy as it might sound, the "wossa effect" does come into play

People who set a BIN and get it accepted will always wonder "Will Wossa have paid more?"

Heck, some who commented about staying away early when the prices are high already have been hitting the BIN/BO. That's why I never give much credibility when one rips on a checklist or product because there are always hidden agendas

I think I picked up my 3 Beckham golds a couple months after release
If you really want a gold, it will eventually come down to a price that you are willing to pay as long as you aren't being too unrealistic on your perceived value. Now if you are going after the super or red, that's a different story due to limited quantity

You are assuming that everybody knows who Wossa is.

The majority of sellers don't price their cards based on the hopes that Wossa will snap it up.

Completely agreed.

This board has an insane (and unhealthy) with infatuation over Wossa. Yes, he has a ton of amazing cards, but anyone pumping their auctions under the false hope that Wossa will pay something stupid is sorely mistaken. Yes, he has money, but he is not an idiot, so if some idiotic BIN is put up...don't expect him to all of the sudden get "dumb" and gobble it up.

So consider me a great disbeliever in any sort of "Wossa effect" belief.

There are so many greedy ********** on ebay it is amazing.

That sounds like entitlement to me....and this thread has undertones of entitlement. As in....How dare someone demand top dollar for a card I want and continue to hold it hostage!

Are some of the BIN's laughable? Sure. Perhaps the seller really doesn't want to move a card but they are thinking every card is for sale at the "right" price.

I'm sure people are trying to squeeze top dollar out of BCDP singles now while the demand exists. It has been a horrible year to sell sports cards and sellers who earn a living off ebay are most likely desperate for every dollar.

Either pay the BIN or move on. The seller owns the card and can ask any price they choose. This same thread pops up every year.....ugh.

Then don't open the thread if it bugs you.

All I was doing was asking a question. I haven't wanted a single card listed, so I am not complaining that I am losing out on cards that I "must have".

I was just asking a question and proving a point. Why does a seller list a gold ref auto for $399.99, with no hope of selling it, knowing damn well two days later the same card will be listed for $139.99 and sell.

That's it. Nothing to do with entitlement, just trying to gain some understanding of the thought process. Espcially on card that are only somewhat rare (/25 or /50).

The term 'scalper' is a much better way to describe many people who sell cards on ebay...in addition to cards, these card sellers must also scalp tickets to bring in some income because it seems the selling tactics are similar. The term '*********' is kinda blunt.

I think people do it b/c they hope someone will pay that price + sometimes, people do, so I’m not sure there’s “no hope of selling it.”
Example, I pulled an 06 bc Gordon gold ref au. @ the time, the “going rate” was 600-700 (I think 1 may have sold for 500ish, but could be wrong as that was ages ago). There were 1 or 2 listed @ auction w/a few days to go when I pulled mine. I put a BIN/BO of 1399 on mine. Obviously I didn’t think anyone would hit it, but hey, if someone offered me say $800, I’d have been happy. In came a bunch of offers- some were tempting, but a lot were lowballs ($200 LOL yeah ok). I sat on the offers for a few hours + next thing I know, BAM, someone hit the BIN + paid right away. The 1s @ auction went for $700 btw. Same thing has happened on some other cards over the years. Sure, the BIN may seem ridiculous to you (Another recent 1 was selling a brent lillibridge 07 bcdp superfractor for $275, $100+ more than his 05 RC super went for), but who knows, you may just get lucky.

Don't forget that BINs disappear the minute theyre snapped up. You don't notice them selling, but alot of times they do.

This is why I wait 6-8 months to buy products on eBay.

I wrote a blog entry a month or two back about this, comparing prices of 2009 Topps Chrome vs. comparable 2008 Topps Chrome and 2009 UD Ballpark Collection with comparable 2008 ones. Within a year, prices drop over 50%.

And considering I just spent $30 on about 8-10 2001 and 2002 National exclusive cards #'d to 5, I have no issue waiting :)
