I pulled a Mariano Rivera from Tribute that had part of the tag on it and the card was numbered out of fifty.
I'm pretty sure the card you are interested in is legit.

And as far as I know, the Yankees are the only team that DOES NOT use CoolBase Jerseys (atleast they didn't when they were implemented) so you may see that the Yankees have legit sewn on patches.

So it sounds like nobody here has pulled a multicolored jersey piece from a pack?

CoolBase Jersey Tags have been found in place of regular swatches in everything from Allen & Ginter, to Base Topps, to Ticket to Stardom.

I would guess Topps dices up the jersey and the sewn on patches go into one pile, and everthing else into another. Therefore, some of the cool base tags get put into regular jersey cards at random.

CoolBase jerseys were first used in 2006.

But, one piece isn't usually used to cover all three cutouts. Right?

In no way am I saying the Zumaya is real, but who's faking Zumayas? The effort put into faking that card can't be that worth it. :lol:

I don't have any suspicions that the printed on/coolbase items cannot come from authentic MLB game used jerseys. Or that Topps put them in other prodcuts in teh past. I am more questioning of whether the seemingly very low and random occurrence of multiple color GU pieces in 2010 Topps Tribute is indicative of Topps being random and quirky (as they are not putting the nicest pieces in the rarest cards) or of a few people managing to insert a few nice looking pieces to jack up the price on Tribute sales. I haven't seen anything that looks like real evidence to the latter, but I'm just trying to do some homework on these so that I am more informed about purchases now and if any multicolor GU pieces show in the future.

I'd think if someone were to fake some of these they'd put a colorful fake piece in ALL # windows, unlike the Manny auto triple GU. And there does not seem to be any seller that's sold or has up for sale more than one card with multi-color GU.

All the same, it woudl be nice to hear a few people say they pulled a nice multi color patch from 2010 Tribute. I guess I am now "patch paranoid" and look at some of the nicer pieces around nowadays as fakes until proven likely to be real.

I think that the Hamilton and the Santana pretty much show that Topps does not insert these tags into any specific cards/sets.

The Santana has lower Parallels and Patch Versions, but this one is in a regular swatch.

Topps doesn't treat these as being prime (except when the full tag is inserted) and puts theme in at random.

That may be true- but only if Topps specifically excludes actual patch pieces- as there are no name/letter or team/letter or logo patches to be found in Topps Tribute 2010. The only thing I can think of is that the stock on these 2010 Tribute cards is not that thick- so they specifically exclude patch pieces because they coudl be too thick to insert. Coolbase tags are screened on, which you guys have demonstrated for me, so those can fit. BUt how could that make sense, even to a Topps executive, in a product that is over $200 per box?!

The laundry tags used are not used at the request of Topps executives probably. Topps has a contract to obtain and use all star event and game jersey's in products,thats why you see a mother load of ads during everything. It makes sense to use these laundry tags in this and any other product though. Excluding other patches in this product allows them to limit them to lower numbers in other products to increase sales of a lower end product like series 1 and 2. They need to make money on every product and why not put nice cards in every product for sales? I disagree with the random placing of the patches and them not being used in lower numbered cards and it not being said on front that it is a luandry tag and or patch. I also would love high end products to have autos on card also. Topps gets sold in 07 and Sterling goes from on card to sticker autos, That was a major let down to a great set. They're like a corrupt sheriff with the backing of the mayor. The Mayor being MLB and they take full advantage of being the sole maker and know people are gonna buy no matter what, Because no one else is their to compete against them and we all need our fix.

I also wish they would label on the card what is specifically enclosed. That's what's keeping these out of slabs to match the rest of my collection.
