I was looking at my cards, and I realized I dont have any that are autographed displayed where light hits them

I know alot of cards (most) are made with good ink that wont fade with light, but something deep down worries me about keeping them displayed in light

Anyone else have this problem...or just me

I personally have never had a problem but I still don't put them in direct light. I was in a card shop and this one case of cards against the window had faded autos galore

Most of what I have displayed is away from direct light. I didn't really do it on purpose though. It's just where I have stuff displayed there's not a lot of direct sun light.

Yes.

Most of my cards are out of any light. I rotate others. Some never see the light. It's my understanding light, sunlight or artificial can fade anything, eventually. I googled real quick and found this..

Ultraviolet rays can break down the chemical bonds and thus fade the color(s) in an object - it is a bleaching effect. Some objects may be more prone to fading, such as dyed textiles and watercolors. Other objects may reflect the light more, which makes them less prone to fade.

Your not alone. I know many who store items out of direct natural light, in UV cases. I used to see many cards in Card Shop/Antique Store windows faded, real bad.

I guess depending on the ink, it would take awhile out of direct sunlight to fade but you never know. Maybe the stickers will start peeling off first. Those stickers remind me of old Star Wars figure bubbles that have turned yellow and crack. You never know...

edited to add, I think red & blue inks fade quicker IIRC.

i don't display any of my cards. Sad to say but i have maybe 1 or 2 cards displayed and they are a couple of the 89 upper deck mcgwires. I am too paranoid of displaying a signed card. They reside in a graded card strong box and that is tucked away in a cabnet. Paranoid yes, but i would rather be careful then upset at myself down the road when the thing fades.

Hopefully this doesn't give you nightmares, but there really isn't a single baseball card that is printed with your idea of "good ink." All cards will fade. All.

Now, there are varying types of paper stock that can retain color better, along with glosses and laminates, but a lot of light will fade everything...except for skin.

Never scan your cat.
They're afraid of bright lights.

I have UV protected glass on my 8x10's, baseball, and baseball bat wooden display cases. Other then that I don't generally display cards like that. I do have a nice cherry shadow boxes with auto'd cards inside, those also have uv protected glass. It costs more, but its worth it to have those pieces out in the open

I don't feel cards are meant to be displayed so I have never worried about it. I do worry about my baseballs and my bats and footballs and pictures but I do the best I can to make sure nothing is in direct sunlight. I really would like to get a dark curtain to put over my one window in my hobby room. Because other than that...there is no light in there except when I turn on the light switch. But in any case...mostly everything is kept out of the little bit of light streaming in.

I left my house for a year and left my signed baseballs exposed, some of them faded a bit but i have since moved them all under the bed. And my cards are only scanned once or not at all and stay in a box.

The Ultra Pro One Touch Magnetic Holders now have UV Protection. The ones with the GOLD magnets are UV protected; the ones with the SILVER magnets are not.

I used to keep my signed baseballs where there was direct sunlight. That didn't last long- my Harmon Killebrew ball got so faded, it's hard to even read the "Harmon" in it  :o
As for cards, I keep them stacked up so they won't fade. Although I would like to have them out in the open for all to see  , I don't want to fade them.
