Would look so much better if Hudson hadn't allowed that inherited runner from first to score. Regardless, it was a very good game by Bradley...few base runners reached and 9 strikeouts to just 1 walk.

Velocity on Archie's fastball is lower than it was last time he was up here. It was hitting 93-96 MPH last time he was up but today it's been in the 92-93 MPH range.
Seems to me like he is sacrificing some velocity in order to improve his command. As he's found out the hard way, 95mph with poor command doesn't lead to success.

What are your thoughts on his outing, Jordan? Is that what's helped him out, taking a little off the fastball in order to throw more strikes? Just wondering what improvements you've noticed since the last time he was up in Arizona.

That is what I'm assuming was his goal. I'll take a low to mid 90's fastball with decent command over a mid to upper 90's fastball that can not be commanded any day of the week. I thought he pitched very well, most particularly the 9:1 strikeout to walk ratio, as command is generally his biggest issue but he seemed to be in control the entire game. Then again, I always take the outcome of a game pitched against a terrible offensive team like the Padres with a grain of salt. On the flip side, the outcome of his last major league win may not have looked all that sexy but it was against the Rockies at Colorado and it's pretty tough not to implode when pitching up there. I think he's on the right track.

Good to hear. :) I know his command has always been his Achilles Heel, so I think now he is maturing as a pitcher because he knows what he needs to do in order to succeed and stay in the rotation. The potential has always been there, just a matter of throwing strikes and let his pitches do the work.

Is Goldschmidt starting to turn a corner too?

I'd really like to say that it looks like he might be but whenever I compliment a player on this team they immediately regress. In fact, I shouldn't have said that about Archie either lol...
