As an Orioles fan, I'm pretty disappointed with Topps Update checklist

This is pretty much a homer post but I feel it is warranted. The Orioles have 11 cards in the checklist which includes the Jim Thome SSP. Adam Jones has his AS card, Xavier Avery has a RC card...then the additions of Hammel, Ayala, Strop, O'Day, Patton, and Arrieta are all understandable. But Ronny Paulino? And Matt Lindstrom? He's not even on the Orioles anymore.

Here we have a playoff team and they could have had SEVEN different players from the ALDS roster in the Topps Update checklist - all of them vital to the Orioles making the playoffs:

1. Manny Machado - I can understand why they didn't have him in. They want him for "RC" next year? Will he even be eligible for ROY? If he's in draft or BC, there's no reason why he couldn't be in Update.

2. Miguel Gonzalez - This to me, is the most blatant and preposterous omission. This guy will be starting game 3, had a 9-4 record with 3.25 ERA and he couldn't get his FIRST baseball card? Seriously?

3. Chris Tillman - Wasn't in series 1 or series 2 and was on of the best SP the second half of the season in the AL. How did he not get a card and Ronny Paulino does?

4. Taylor Teagarden - speaking of Paulino....Teagarden has been our backup for a very long time, not Paulino. Just doesn't make sense.

5. Nate McLouth - our everyday LF and leadoff hitter goes from the Pirates to the Orioles...hes in either Series 1 or 2 as a Pirate...and he can't get a card in Update as an Oriole?

6. Lew Ford - Guy hasn't had a card probably since 2005, yet he's on our ALDS roster. No love? He got 2 hits last night too!

7. Ryan Flaherty - again....opportunity to have his first MLB card - been on the O's roster ALL year, and no dice. But I'm wondering if he was part of the 2008 Razor-gate fiasco a la Wieters.

Base Topps and Topps Update are not premium sets. There doesn't need to more Bryce Harper, Mike Trouts, and every other highly sought after rookie having 23 cards about Major League Debuts, when they got their first hit, when they got a walk off hit, when they got a pie in the face, when they took a XXXX for the first time in an MLB uniform...use Update and Opening Day, etc to give the team and player collectors a chance to have the guys on their favorite team a card. It's the ONLY opportunity they have all year.

Normally I wouldn't care b/c normally the Orioles suck. But they don't this year!

Thanks for listening to me whine.

I'm disappointed in the Dodgers checklist. Two SSPs (Beckett, Gonzalez)? Thanks, Topps.

As a Mantle fan I'm disappointed that he has nothing in Update (not even an insert) or Chrome. It's the first time he has no card in Chrome since 2005.

I hit a Beckett SSP in my break. Haven't listed it yet. I was shocked at how crazy limited those SSPs were. That was the only SSP in 12 jumbo cases.

As for the Orioles...well they are the Orioles! And yes, we do need more Trout and Harper! :)

Forget that, how about the second half MVP Luis Cruuuuuz?

Cruz would have been a nice inclusion but at least we got AJ Ellis on his first ever MLB card and Elian Herrera too who was Cruz before Cruz was Cruz.

There are actually four  You forgot Crawford and Punto.

A Thome sold for $80, you should do well with the Beckett.

I was being somewhat facetious saying we don't need more Harper and Trout. It never hurts to have more value but sometimes I do feel Topps overdoes it. In Series 1 they had like 3 different Desmond Jennings and Craig Kimbrel cards in the span of 100 cards on the checklist.

That wasn't an infield fly

THANKS TOPPS

Your face is an infield fly.

oh, XXXX me. I thought this was going to be one of those, "made you look" moments, and I would find out you were messing with me. Sadly, that is not the case. SOAFB

edited to add: XXXX you, Topps ;)

As there are 330 cards in the set and 30 MLB teams, I'd expect each team to have 11 cards :)

My personal preference is to have as many different players get a card as possible regardless of how well they perform/don't perform, but that's just me.

Without having reviewed any checklist in detail, I've wondered these last few years whether Topps prefers to include pitchers over hitters in base Topps.

I'm actually in agreement with you. I think everyone should have a card if you played 1 MLB game in that particular year.

Id love to see a team/player/set collectors dream and see a base set of cards that has every player from every team on their 40 man roster. Sure you can throw in a couple parallels and or inserts but the focus would be a huge set to put together.

Something similar to UD Documentary would be cool. Documentary screwed up by putting 20-25 of each player from each team. Why not make a set where you have a card for each member of that made an appearance for each team.

In the case of Steve Pearce, he would have 3 cards in the set - one for the Orioles, Yankees, and Astros. In the end, you could have about a 2,000 card set to put together, which would be fun. Each card could have a gold parallel (one per pack) and maybe another color parallel #'d to 10 or less.

As a Darin Mastroianni fan, I'm pretty disappointed that he doesn't have a Topps Update card.
