Couldn't agree more about Sabathia. I really don't understand the love affair for him. He is a good pitcher on a great team. Let's not confuse that with him being a great pitcher.

WTF? Explain to me how he's not a great pitcher.

CC is a very good pitcher, but I wouldn't consider him a TOP pitcher in baseball but the top pitcher on the top team.

CC Sabathia is 11-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.

Doug Fister is 3-9 with a 3.02 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.

how anyone says sabathia isnt a good pitcher is beyond me

3.05 era 11-4 106 ks and 1.21 whip

thats pretty all star worthy

aside from Sabathia

David Robertson- 1.08 era 53 k and 1.29 whip he has been one of the best relievers all year long
Mark teixeira- i know his BA is low but considering he plays for the Yankees and this is his best start im sortve surprised he didnt get onto the final vote either

He plays for the Yankees. On a different team his record would be 8-5. In the American League, he's 15th in ERA, 21st in WHIP, tied for 28th in Batting Average Against. His best stat (other than the TEAM stat of wins) is strikeouts, where he is 6th in the AL.

Good numbers, but not great. There are lots of guys with better numbers and lots of guys who deserve an all star spot. Sabathia hasn't separated himself from the pack this year.

I said he is a good pitcher but not a great pitcher this year. Not that he isn't good.

I'm not even talking about this season alone. He's a great pitcher and has been his whole career.

Teixeira is behind Adrian, Cabrera AND Konerko this year.

Robertson's # are shocking considering his WHIP is so high for such a low ERA. David Pauley is another reliever who could have made it, 1.44 ERA, 43.2 IP, WHIP 0.87.

And no one is saying Sabathia isn't a very good pitcher, he's just not all star worthy right now as other pitchers have simply performed better.

I'm not talking about just this season, The guy has been one of the most consistently dominant pitchers in the game for his entire career.

first Sabathia's numbers are better than David Price and Hernadez so to say hes not top 15 isnt really fair when he beats out 2 guys in the AL so i really do believe he got snubbed this year

No he hasn't. He's been a very good pitcher with 1 season of a sub 3 ERA and a career 3.54 ERA. He's never dominated the league.

I agree. Felix should have been left off and Pineda should have taken his spot.

Felix 3.35 ERA, 124, K's, 1.19 WHIP
CC 3.05 ERA, 106 K's, 1.21 WHIP
Pineda 2.65 ERA, 99 K's, 1.03 WHIP

I choose Pineda over both

Fair enough, although I'd still argue that he hasn't been dominant for his entire career (although he has been very good).

But I was referring more to this season specifically, in response to all the people saying he got snubbed.

You do realize that he has pitched in the A.L. his entire career where core pitching stats are inflated? You know he is a Cy Young Award winner with 4 seasons in top-5 Cy Young Award voting? You know he has never had lower than a .522 win/loss percentage in any season?

Out of career active starting A.L. pitchers

2nd in strikeouts
2nd in WAR
2nd in shutouts
3rd in win/loss percentage
3rd in wins
4th in ERA
4th in complete games
5th in innings

All before his 31st birthday. You need your head examined.

Sabathia isn't an all-star pitcher this year but he's been a good pitcher in his career. Not Pedro Martinez or Greg Maddux good but in that second tier of pitchers. He'll likely end up with close to 300 wins if not over as long as he stays healthy.

Felix: ERA 3.35, WHIP 1.19, K/9 8.65 (5th in AL)
Price: ERA 3.43, WHIP 1.05, K/9 8.85 (2nd in AL)
CC: ERA 3.05, WHIP 1.21, K/9 7.36 (19th in AL)

Price has the overall edge of the 3. It's pretty close between Felix and CC.

In my opinion, Sabathia is one of those pitches where you can't tell how good he is by his stats.

Sabathia is a workhorse. A smart workhorse. He doesn't overwork himself when he doesn't need to. He realizes he doesn't need to shut the other team down when the score is 7-2.

But anyway. I think requiring an All Star from each team.....

another dull year.
the Mariners have had 10 guys do most of the throwing this year, and the 2 with 6th and 7th best ERA get selected :|
