There's nobody on the basketball boards so I figured I'd vent here.

Maybe i'm just fed up with Upper Deck's quality control issues.

I went to the local card show today looking to pick up some Ghost Whisperer boxes, and the dealer tells me they're sold out, but he tells me he has a few cases left of the "hottest" thing. I usually do bass fishing cards and occassionally baseball cards, but I decided to give it a shot. I don't delve much into basketball, but I open a case and this is my best pull out of three packs, a pieceworks signature card:

I was pretty excited, my first micheal jordon autograph card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looked up his stats, and I don't usually collect retired guys, but it looks like he's got a shot at the Hall of Fame.

So I figure my kid doesn't need to go to a private college (nothing wrong with a JC) and the dealer convinces me to buy a second case, and the best card I got was a Kelvin Garnet pieceworks signature card out of 50 and a letterman patch/15 of last year's Chicago's NBA best rookie, Jalen Rose. The dealer basically told me I lost $1600 on the second case and I was crushed. And Upper Deck, you can at least have some semblence of relationship between the players you put on your cards. I mean I pulled a few eight jersey cards out of your products and get all these weird, strange, and frankly unfathomable combos of players that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Then you tease us by putting them into plastic penny sleeves to make us think we pulled something special, and all we get is a bunch of single color jersey cards on each side. What kind of recycled crap dumping is that! We all know the best stuff goes overseas anyways.

I sink the rest of what's in my wallet into the last case. I figure for my kid "who needs college anyways?", I mean a lot of folks drop out after their second year, or just skip college altogether.

Now here's where my complaint comes in. I mean, these athletes are paid millions of dollars to play sports and it's as if they think they're doing collectors a favor by signing their cards. Atty least they can do a neat job about it and not screw up what some collectors pay hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars, to purchase. I mean, jeez, have some respect for your fans and the industry, WE are the ones supporting you at the ballgames, WE are the ones paying $20 for hot dogs, and the least you can do is NOT SCREW UP our cards.

Anyways, so I pull this combo card with a basketball guy, but I can't figure out why they matched him up with this "barely can call him an athlete". I tried looking up his name on NBA.com, but I couldn't find it. And the worst part is, they completely destroy the aesthetics of the card by scribbling all this crap next to their names, partially obscuring their description on the card and pictures. I mean who do these athletes think they are, gangsters doing graffiti? How can Upper Deck possibly allow their athletes to deface cards like this:

That's a great read. Thanked.

Truely a great break and I'm glad you showed us here. I personally don't mind in the least that it's B-Ball in this forum.

I actually sold the rest of the contents back to the dealer. Believe me, there wasn't much else significant outside of the hits I mentioned.

I think I got one James Harden, one Stephen Curry, and the rest of the rookies sell for about $10-$30.

In terms of vets, I pulled a Deron Williams auto patch/26, a Jason Kidd auto patch/50, and two different eight piece jersey cards as hits. I pulled jumbo patches/15 of Monta Eliis, Ron Artest, and that Rose kid. That's about it. No flashbacks, no limited logos. All in a total of 3 cases.

This is about as extreme an all-or-nothing product I have ever seen. Break at your own risk- I obviously was one of the lucky few with this break.

So where do you get these Bass fishing cards?

Awesome pulls. Congrats. Why the DOB's on the cards? If that is what they are.

That's just insane. Way to go. I'd trade my college education for those two cards, in a second...

Wow, i'm so sorry......gosh, I'm sure Upper Deck never intended for you to get such a crappy card! You may want to call Upper Deck and return that one, you might get a Ghostwhisperer relic card from them. You're actually griping about pulling that amazing of a card? I dont do basketball and I dont do golf but really? You pulled a dual auto of two of the best modern day athletes and you're complaining? Ya know what, you're right for never buying Upper Deck again; you may want to leave a pull like that to someone who deserves OR wants it
