I wish unpleasant things on the ASG and the NHL. There was never a real attempt to keep the team in Atlanta by the ASG or the NHL. The NHL didn't try to work with Atlanta to keep the team here. They did everything they could to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix. If they would have just shown 10% of the effort they put into keeping the team in Phoenix, the Thrashers would still be here.

THIS x1 000 000 000
Yep...

But i'm not helping the problem...I'm walking away.

Any Winnipeg fans interested in my Thrashers Future Watch Auto collection? PM me if so.

I am sure this is an unfortunate situation for Atlanta fans, and I agree, more could have been done before this move and from day one to avoid this situation. Bottom line now though is it's a done deal, Winnipeg has their team again and from what I read, some very solid and dedicated ownership. There will be some hurdles, but ultimately this is a great thing for their city, but overall I don't see it being much benefit to the league as a whole.

There is no benefit to the league whatsoever by moving back to Winnipeg. The NHL won't gain any new fans in Manitoba. The true challenge and goal of the league should be gaining new fans in an area where hockey isn't traditionally the most popular sport. Putting a solid team on the ice is one way of doing that and bringing hockey to the attention to 10+ million people in my area was, I'm sure, the intent of the NHL when they awarded Atlanta a new franchise. The NHL and ASG failed miserably and their lack of dedication was obvious. The NHL bent over backwards to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix and that was a bigger mess than Atlanta ever was.

Sometimes I wonder if the relocation of NHL teams is about making the league better by growing the sport or if it's about the league getting their $40-$80 million in quick money. I believe after the new labor agreement, the relocation fees are distributed amongst the teams. Very bad agreement IMO and will lead to corruption and more teams moving. It will be detrimental to the league in the long run by alienating its' fan base.

I just hope junior hockey continues to grow without a professional team here.

Fans Buy 1,870 NHL Season Tickets on First Day

On the first day of the NHL season ticket presale, True North Sports and Entertainment has sold 1,870 tickets since 1 p.m.

Not a bad start, considering only two of eight groups were eligible on Day 1 of the ticket drive toward 13,000. On Thursday, another group of eligible buyers will have a chance at ticket purchases, followed by another group on Friday.

On Saturday at noon, general season tickets will go on sale to the public.

First dibs were given to Manitoba Moose season ticket holders, and corporate partners and advertisers.

True North will provide daily updates at 4:30 p.m. on how many tickets have moved at Driveto13.com

Solid ticket sales numbers after day 2 of the presale. People have been offering Moose ticket holders upwords of $1000 to just be able to access the presale tix.
I'll let you all know that there is a LOT of hype over seasons tickets and the Saturday public sale in Manitoba.
I'm going in on a pair of season tickets with 8 of my buddies, to help minimize the cost, and to secure my seat for 5 regular season games. I know of plenty of people who are using this same strategy.
This should help the drive to 13 become an achievable reality.

I just hope there are season tickets available in the area that I'm looking for tomorrow!
Keep in mind that it took Columbus nearly 12 months to sell 13,000 season tickets when they were awarded a franchise.

Sweet, ticker sales are going up very fast!!

They'll be at 13K in no time.

Keep us updated as you hear more about tickets sales in Winnipeg.

On a related note, that team is gonna make a killing on merchandise sales for the first couple years. Everyone in Manitoba is gonna wanna new jets Jersey or Tshirt or Hat. I would bet that Winnipeg Jets merchandise will sell quite well right across Canada for the first season.

Re: Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg?

I wish that Canadians could celebrate this without bashing Atlanta and without turning this into a nationalistic thing. This wasn't a victory for Canada, this was a loss for Atlanta that Winnipeg benefited from. And it's a shame that Canadians are more interested in having another Canadian team than what's good for the game and the league.

I feel bad for the Panthers, Canes, Caps and Lightning, having a team in their division so ridiculously far away.

I wish disgruntled Thrashers fans would stop saying that this move isn't good for the league. In 3 days, the Winnipeg team sold 13,000 season tickets and have an 8,000 person waiting list. Ticket sales, merch sales, and advertizing revenue are going to dwarf what Atlanta did. So explain to me again how this move isn't going to make money?

Am I a disgruntled thrashers fan? Absolutely. But is this a good move for the league? Well, that depends on which side of his mouth Gary is talking from. No kidding this move is going to make money. It already has, the league got 60 million for it. HOWEVER if you listen to the other side of his mouth, the goal is to grow the game. How do you expect to do that in winnepeg? How many NEW hockey fans are you going to get by putting an NHL team in what many have called the "frozen tundra"? I'll put the over under on that at 100. Hard to grow in a fully saturated market. Let me point out that when the thrashers were created they sold 12 000+ season tickets in the first few days. not to mention that if they sell out every game they will only draw ~2 000 more people a game than Atlanta did in their last season. Keep in mind that this city also failed once and please don't talk about "the weak canadian dollar" because at the end of the day they were drawing LESS than the thrashers did this year. And this is after the thrashers made the playoffs once in 11 years whereas Winnipeg in their last year made the playoffs 8 of their last 11 seasons. (atl 13469 to wpg 11316)

When it comes to growing the game the NHL has made a huge mistake, and I use myself as an example. I live in a market where there is NO hockey ( kansas) yet, i became a fan a few years ago after seeing a red wings - blues game from the 3rd row. So, i gravitated to my original home's team. I bought center ice, flew to minnesota, back to georgia several times, drove to st. Louis to watch my thrashers. I was the EXACT type of person the NHL was trying to hook: young, some family, and plenty of discretionary income.

Now because of a terrible ownership group that intentionally ran this franchise into the
ground, an NHL comissioner that sat on his hands, and winnepeg trolls and comments like yours basically telling the few thrashers fans that gave a damn to say something to stop whining and that Atlanta never deserved a team, well thats enough for me to say i'm done with the NHL.

Re: Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg?

Okay, it looks like I'm gonna be the one to say this unless it was said before, then whoever did say it should get the credit.

Moving the Thrashers to Winnipeg wasn't about growth. It was about money, plain and simple. The NHL put out a ton of money to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix, another floundering market. There was no way that Bettman or his goons could afford to keep the Thrashers in Atlanta. There was already too much invested. By allowing this move, the NHL made back 60 mill of what they put into Phoenix.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I'm sorry to the fans of the Thrashers for losing their franchise. If the Flyers were to move from Philly, I would be an absolute wreck.

I also agree that part of this is on the heads of the former owners. When you have people that own a team that know the equivalent of jack squat about hockey, the franchise is going to fail until new ownership steps in. The new ownership in this case took the team to Winnipeg and the NHL was not willing to stop them after what happened last year.

The NHL didn't drop the ball. They threw a 60 million dollar pass that ended up in the end zone. If the NHL was going to do something, they should have done it when those slap ass owners put in a bid for the team in the first place.

Saying everyone in the "Frozen Tundra" is already a big fan of Hockey is like saying everyone in the USA is a big fan of Baseball.
