A few years ago I purchased a couple of advance readers copies (ARC or uncorrected proof) of the David Ortiz book on Ebay. They were cheap, maybe $4-5 each. When Papi went on his rehab assignment to the Portland Sea Dogs, I decided to send one off, just on the off chance he would sign it. I know he went on a book signing tour and signed a bunch of hard covers, but I can't imagine there are too many, possibly no other signed ARC's out there.

Very nice! I have so many ARCs, it is somewhat ridiculous. But that one is great.

Thanks for the compliment Therion. :)

I just purchased another ARC off Ebay, Clive Barkers Weaveworld. I'm a huge Clive Barker fan and this is one of my all time favorite books.

It was advertised as autographed which is what I wanted, and the price was reasonable so I bought it. When I got it, someone had written a price on the inside cover page in pencil (I hate when book sellers do that!). Also on that page was Clive's autograph, so to keep it clean and so it presented better, I erased the pencil writing.

When I went to the next page, the title page, I found a second autograph! The first was an early autograph, dated 1987, around the release date, the second was a newer autograph, signed in his new style signature.

It was a nice surprise to find a second autograph, I don't think the seller bothered looking past the first page.

Whoa! Take a pic of that, if you'd be so kind!

That is a fantastic piece.

You mentioned that you buy ARCs? Check in your town for small independent bookstores. They'll often give them away to customers. Large chains have them but give them all to employees. However, you might find an employee at Borders or Barnes & Noble that might pick some up to sell you. Expect a lot of duds though LOL

Got back British author Michael Morpurgo back a while ago. He wrote my favorite book "Private Peaceful". Also Steven Spielberg has chosen to direct "War Horse" which was another book by him.

My wife (school librarian) recommends Private Peaceful all the time! Nice auto!

I just got home from a road trip over the past couple of days. My wife and I headed to New Hampshire to attend a Stephen King book signing. I live in Mr. King's area, but this is the first time I have ever had the chance to get a signed book.

The signing was VERY well run, smooth as silk. We were assigned to show up at 7:45 pm, but we wanted to get there early, so we arrived at 7 pm. I'm glad we did, as we were allowed right in. We were in line for maybe 20-25 minutes before I was standing there talking with Mr. King. I told him where we traveled from, he asked about the drive down and if we were staying the night. He was very chatty, smiling and really seemed to enjoy interacting with his fans. It was an awesome experience, I'm a lifelong fan of his, so this was a grail autograph for me. And getting it in person I know that it is 100% authentic.

Here are a few photos I took from the signing.

The line of people waiting turn.

An interesting "success"

When I got Sue Grafton's autograph for my mom, she put her on the mailing list. She sent out a signed Christmas card, at least, it isn't autopen or preprint.

A lot of authors do this :) I randomly have Kevin Anderson signed stuff show up in my mailbox LOL

Also, one of the authors put me on a list of people to get Advanced Reader Copies. I have no idea who did it, but they started showing up about two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier!

I hope my mom kept it... it would actually be perfect for a cut lol.

I should see if it's still around, Sue sends out some cool stuff. She sent out a coaster once as a promo for a book, but I don't think we have it anymore.

I need to get some author autographs... it would be cool to have some!

An autograph of one of my favorite American writers, Philip Roth.

This is in a Franklin Library Signed First Edition series of Roth's novel, The Anatomy Lesson.

Great thread guys, keep em coming!

I got a signed bookplate from George Bush today. Thrilled that this one came back, I wasn't sure if I would ever get anything back.
