Got this one at an in-person signing several years ago.

One of my favorite writers from my nostalgic childhood. :)

ARRGHH!! You suck! J/K!

Seriously, LOVE Bradbury! My favorite sci-fi author. I would love to meet him! And that book you got signed is an all time CLASSIC. Nice, nice, nice!

Twinsfan, pick up Fahrenheit 451, Illustrated Man, Something Wicked This Way Comes, R is for Rocket, S is for Space, The Martian Chronicles....pick any of them, they all rock!

I hear a lot about Fahrenheit 451... I will have to read that one.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is probably the one that I read... maybe not.

Thanks, it was a special day, indeed!

He was my big brother's all-time favorite and he introduced me to Bradbury when I was 10 (about 34 years ago, gulp).

It is so tough to pick a favorite Bradbury title for me. I would say that my favorites are Dandelion Wine, The Martian Chronicles, The Halloween Tree and The October Country. At this signing, due to health issues, he only was signing his name and no personalizations. Luckily for me, I had gotten a personalized index card a year or so earlier from him TTM.

Ray Bradbury... that sounds like a familiar name... I just can't place it though!

Take Tedw's advice (and mine, too) and read anything of his. I think his earlier stuff is his best, but anything will do. I would bet that once you start reading his work, you will want to read it all! :)

I think I have, but I can't remember

I will definitely go check out some stuff at the library one of these days.

Got a steal on ebay the other day.

Had always wanted a signed book of this author (not necessarily this title, though).

However, couldn't beat the price for a Franklin Library Signed First.

Seller had it listed for $50 BIN, but put it on sale for $15!

I snapped it up!

Joyce Carol Oates:

Will keep my eyes peeled, Billy.

Here are my two latest finds, neither from Ebay!

First edition of poetry by George Sterling, The House of Orchids. George was the best friend of Jack London.
It is not only double signed by George, but inside, he actually made hand corrections on a few printing errors. :)

Then, a cut signature of the great writer/war correspondent Richard Harding Davis. He is best known for covering the Spanish-American War for the Hearst papers in 1898. He was a friend of Jack London and the two of them covered the Russo-Japanese War in 1901.

Got an item that I ordered from a book collector's site awhile back. Was afraid it was lost in the mail, but it arrived in great shape!

So, the latest in my Six Degrees of Jack London collection (aka the "Jeez,Andrew,Who the Heck are These People?" collection).

Mary Austin was a member of "The Crowd", Jack London's unofficial group of art/literary friends in Northern California back in the early 1900's.
She wrote some great stuff, best known for a nature commentary called "The Land of Little Rain" about the Sierra region of California. "Mad Moon" is an underappreciated work in my opinion, so glad to find a signed copy at an acceptable price.

So who were the members of The Crowd?

The best known of the Crowd was probably Joaquin Miller. Others were Charmian Kittredge-London, George Sterling, Mary Austin, Frank Strawn-Hamilton, Anna Strunsky, Herman Whitaker. A few others were some-time members of the unofficial group.

So far, I have Jack London, Charmian, Sterling, Austin and Whitaker. In process of ordering a Miller, just deciding which one to get. The others are tough to find.

Jack, you must have an incredible library at home. I'm always impressed when I pop back in this thread just to see what other cool book you've picked up lately.

Thanks for taking the time to take pics and post all of them, it's enjoyed and appreciated.

I wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else is interested. I found this on another board, I'm just passing along the love.

This site http://premierecollectibles.com/categories/george_w_bush/decision_points is selling SIGNED COPIES of George Bush Decision Points for $60 plus shipping. Shipping is a little heavy at $15 per, but if you use this code, customer024872, you'll get $6 off the book. So it comes to $69 dlvd, or at least it did for me.

Like him or hate him, he was an American President and those autographs seem to hold value pretty good. I think it's a pretty dam good deal.

And in case your thinking they are using book plates (like the ones he signed and sent out late last year), the book are signed, no book plates. One of the guys posted a pic of his book.

Glad you like them Ted; I find I am getting more enjoyment from my library than many of my cards.

Thanks for the tip about the Bush auto books. The signed book as opposed to a bookplate is a definite plus, but sometimes all you can find are signed plates. When that happens, I say a plate is better than nothing! :)

Couple more treasures for my collection! ;)

First, a nice Franklin Library Signed First of Where I'm Calling From by the late Raymond Carver (one of the greatest short-fiction writers the world will ever know).

scan0025.jpg

scan0027-2.jpg

Then, a really nice slipcased, hand-numbered and signed edition of Irwin Shaw's Bread Upon the Waters. Shaw is better known as the author of The Young Lions, Nightwork, Evening in Byzantium, and Rich Man, Poor Man.

These special editions are addicting and somewhat pricey, but for the money, they are well worth the cash.
