I had not heard this was coming, but it appears that after literally decades, sellers finally appear to have gotten one of the biggest things on their wishlists (or maybe just mine). A quick search shows this has been slowly rolling out since last year, but I finally had it happen for me. Last night I won an auction for a card. Normally, when I win something at night I don't pay till the next day because my credit card calculates balance on a daily basis and why run up the balance when I know no one is shipping a card at 9 PM on Sunday night. Anyway, after the auction ended, when I looked at the page again, there was a countdown to automatic payment in 59+ minutes. I could apply points or coupons, change my method of payment, etc. but it was going to charge my card automatically in an hour. I let it go just to see what would happen and yes, this morning it said the card was paid for, just like a normal payment.
While I haven't been a big seller lately, I anticipate doing a lot more listing this winter when we move into our new house. I don't know if this is universal for all auctions, categories, bidders, etc. but I'm happy to see it. The number of slow- and non-payers I've had, while relatively few over the years, are definitely annoying. Being able to wrap up the transaction within a day is a welcome change. The only downside is I can see the contrarian people complaining about it, and possibly the number of returns go up from the "my kid bid on this card" contingent. But for normal people it's only a positive change.
