hey guys, I know this is probly a stupid question but under normal conditions storing your cards in boxes in the dark and then setting up at some show will this have an effect on them?I know it can under some extream conditions but is it something to worry about?

From my experiences no, but I see where you're coming from. I've only had probelems with Sweet Spot cards, and 8X10's. Usually they only fade when exposed for long periods of time. I would worry about bringing them from the dark to the light for a few hours. Shouldn't be a problem IMO

I don't want to seem to anal about my cards lol. But Its like even the ss I'm not to worried about as long as there the normal Sweet spot ones with real baseball and not the fake ones. I didn't think taking them out for a couple days would hurt either

Don't baseballs tend to fade after awhile, too. I've had some balls that pretty much remained the same after twenty tears. Man, what good is collecting some of this stuff if you can't look at it.

Direct sunlight kills Autographs on baseballs and cards even if you store them in the ball cubes etc. Same can be set at a show setting where there is direct sunlight etc. on your table. Other than that, I doubt you have too much to worry about unless you are doing shows 5 days a week every week.

I store all of my cards in a room temperature safe in 1/2" to 1" one screw cases and then a box that is closed. I only take them out if I intend on moving them.

The only Autos I have had fade on me were the ones I left out on display that did get direct sunlight.

No such thing as too anal when it comes to a hobby like this one. I personally use the new UV protected one touch magnetics and display them in a UV protected glass framed case on my wall in a low lit room. (I'll have to do up a video on my display) As long as the user isn't stupid (no uv protection combined with direct sunlight exposure) autos will do well over time. (With the exception of these retarded sweet spot cards)

Just keep them away from any light as much as possible or when you're not enjoying them and you'll be fine. My card box here sees a lot of sunlight but I don't worry too much about it.

I keep my auto'd balls on a shelf in my room. Not a lot of light exposure -- NO sunlight, and my bedroom lighting is the soft-glow low wattage bulb.

I also have my framed Mantle 8x10 up there, too. No fading, yet, but it's only been like a year for the balls. I'll get them in some sort of UV protection eventually, but I don't have any fears.

Flourescent lighting is also evil. Definitely do not store your autos on display in a room lit with flourescent bulbs. It's almost as bad as sunlight. As a previous poster said, use the soft white bulbs.

I thought I was the only anal one. =)

I use to be this anal too with regards to the condition of a baseball card. I would search around the card looking for bumps and bruises. Any white specks would make me frown. I would place them in top loader then screwdown then one-touch. After awhile I said screw it and bought a BGS 9.5 of the card instead. Problem solved and happily ever after!
