Awesome Auction Pickup!!!

At this point in my HOFer Auto collection, I have reached a point where it is getting much more difficult (and expensive) to add players. Many of you have reached a similar impasse with your collections.

I love when you can advance your quest greatly in one fail swoop. That is what I was able to do last night in an auction by Mile High Card Co. I had never heard of them before last week and I didn't have high expectations. I browsed through their catalog online and found a couple of interesting items, but nothing that really blew my skirt up. Then I came across this piece and I got really excited.

I know that some people don't like multi-signed pieces, but personally I think they are really cool.

Amazingly, of the 8 HOFers that signed the front I needed 7 of them!! And they are not easy ones to acquire. Here is the list of HOFers that signed the front:

Jimmie Foxx, Rogers Hornsby, Kid Nichols, Tris Speaker, Mickey Cochrane, Connie Mack, and Paul Waner are the ones I needed.

I already have Charlie Gehringer (front) and Red Schoendienst (back).

The other great thing is what I paid. It ended up only being $1,163 w/ buyer's premium. I couldn't be happier.

Would love to hear any comments. What do you think?

Agreed. The Kid Nichols really stood out to me as well. This event happened July 10, 1952. Nichols died the following year, 9 months later.

It's also awesome that the document has the player's names on it (typed). Super cool!

Even more amazing to me was the final hammer + premium. Had you not mentioned it, I would've estimated $2,000+.

To put it in perspective, my 1990 MLB alumni reunion poster ran $1,500, and those were all common contemporary HOFers.

Your one comment is funny, though. Didn't the PSA 7.76 1952 Topps set "blow your skirt up?" Final price $526,575.

That's funny. I should qualify my statement. There wasn't a whole lot that fit in with what I collect as well as being affordable for me.

You find Mile High Auctions from my list? I have not ever won anything from them but they do have great auctions.

To give you perspective, I paid roughly $2k total (incl. PSA slabbing) for individual autos of Jimmie Foxx, Rogers Hornsby, Tris Speaker, Mickey Cochrane, Connie Mack, and Paul Waner. Kid Nichols is one of a couple next on my list so I'll be shelling out $500+ for that I am sure. I think this shows you can get a great deal if you are more flexible with your collection. You have a variety of items in your collection while I only collect index cards, GPC's, or nice cuts.

Congrats on this addition. I've got my eye on a Ted Williams item that ends this weekend that would complete a set I have been working on for several years. We shall see.....

Thanks Scott!! I also pieced the autos out and thought that it would cost me around $2,500 to get all of them individually. I think I got good value.

And yes, it would be awesome to have been at that luncheon!!
