Being born in 1980 and having my first baseball memories be of the 1987 season, in particular the Giants Cardinals playoff series this card was iconic to me. By the time this card came out it I was obsessed with baseball and it was "THE" card to have. I can't tell you how many packs my dad bought me but I never pulled one. I finally decided it was time for me to get one.

I'm thinking about sending it to PSA to see if it can grade a PSA 10. I think it has a good chance.
BTW I've always read that the highest BGS grade could only be .5 higher than it's lowest grade. This card defies that.

Thats the exception to the rule. Since 3 of the areas are 9.5... it raised the 8 to a 9.

Not sure on the cutoff... I think it needs 3 9.5s to get the full bump.... 2 9.5s and a 9 would only make it a 8.5 I believe.... but not sure.

Every collector needs one of those in their collections!! Glad to hear you finally got one. I wanted one bad as a kid as well, but never got one either until just recently, in the last few years.

I never owned one ::facepalm:: But my father-in-law has an old deep freeze full of Griffey Rookies I have mentioned he will get more for them graded if he ever decides to sell them.

congrats on landing a must have card.

I was lucky enough to pull one from a pack at a show in '89. I still remember how angry my buddy was because he bought a whole box and didn't pull one but I only bought 2 packs and got mine.
