Yeah, a Folty sighting!!!!!

This is sarcasm, correct? He was on the 'NOT SO HOT' list.

This list is a joke though. BA doesn't look at the entire Minor Leagues, only guys that make their Top 150s, so many guys that put up much bigger numbers than everyone on that list. Yet, no mention at all. One player in particular hit over .500 with 4HRs and yet they aren't even mentioned. He's a 22-year old in AA and skiped High-A altogether after crushing in the MWL last year.

Even though I don't know BA's process on choosing players, I do agree that they skip over some of the lesser hyped players that had weeks that have blown away all of the guys on the current list.

If this was BA's Performance Hot Sheet, we'd see a different list. But it isn't.

Serious question since you are more on top of what BA does. What is their criteria when choosing players who make the hot list each week? Is it typically the more hyped players who have ranked higher the current and past years? I always thought it had to do with a combination of performance and age at their respect level of play. There are always a few players that get left off, but I find they are the type of players that never ranked high in team/total prospect rankings.

From my observations, their ratio seems to be about 70/30 ceiling/performance.

"As we have warned for years now, remember that this is not a re-ranking of the Top 100 Prospects. This is a snapshot of which top prospects are excelling and which ones are struggling right now. Stats cover the period from May 6 through last night, May 12."

So yeah, only THEIR guys are eligible. Which makes this list a joke. You can't randomly choose which guys to cover and be unbiased. I asked two questions about this today and of course neither has been answered.

For those wondering about BA's thoughts on players' ages.

Norm (Chicago): We hear often that a player is 'old for his league' or 'young for his league'...what are the average ages for Low A, High A, and Double A?

Ben Badler: The organizational types tend to skew the average age upwards, but generally prospects should be up to 20-21 in Low-A, 21-22 in High-A, 22-23 in AA and 23-24 in AAA. Obviously whether a guy comes from college, HS or the international ranks, injuries, organizational logjams and a TON of other things can slow a guy down though, so it's not a death sentence by any means to be a little bit older. In fact, that's probably where you can make your money as a scout if you can separate an older guy just beating up on the competition from someone who's a bit older but a legitimate prospect, since those players tend to fall out of favor with an organization and can be picked up in trades without having to part with a marquee player in return.
