My friend was in the locker room when Harper was sent down and told me he flipped out, cursing out Riggleman and throwing stuff.

Interesting....I hadn't heard this. Did Bryce really think he would be on the roster to start the season? I am sure the veterans on the team CAN'T WAIT for him to be in the bigs and have to baby sit his ego.....Figure it out Bryce. This isn't JUCO anymore.

My friend plays with the nationals and said he shot three players, kidnapped the children of a couple of other players and then went from hotel room to hotel room ripping off the tags on every mattress. He was also the friend with Dez Bryant who had on jeans that were too baggy. He is now being linked to Libya and may have given Gaddaffi hitting lessons.

My friend told me that.

You realize it is possible to have connections with major league teams right? Even if you don't. I saw some things in the Angels Clubhouse that I wouldn't discuss, but it sure doesn't mean I didn't see them. Why the skepticism?

Are you saying that if anyone had witnessed that it wouldnt have been everywhere with a player as polarizing as harper is?

Come on Matt, anyone can come on here and say they have friends who've seen something and hopefully like you, they could prove they had the opportunity to do so.

Intense hype breeds intense jealousy.

Let's see some actual proof, for once.

If you knew a player in that locker room, or an employee who witnessed it, would you seriously OUT your source? Really?

I'd bring a camera, or give one to my friend if I couldn't be there.

Then sell it to ESPN since I'm only here for the money.

Harper seems like an hyper-competitive person to me. That's not a flaw that will hinder his career, it's a personal flaw that will make him a better baseball player but probably negatively affect his personal life. If I was a collector or investor of his, I would be delighted by his almost insane drive to succeed. Him being mad at not making the Nationals out of ST is awesome if you ask me. So many young players don't have that kind of emotional connection to the sport they play. Most players don't have a fraction of this kid's intensity towards playing baseball. This kid is possessed when it comes to the actual sport of baseball. I respect that.

Only thing that I would be worried about Harper would be how he handles adversity. If he can handle the mental parts of the game, then he'll be fine.

Sure. THat fire looks great when it's because he didn't make the team out of ST.

What about when it's from going "0-for" a few games and he takes it out on a water cooler in the dugout? Or a teammate that makes a smartass comment?

We should probably cross that bridge if or when we come to it.

I'm not saying it will happen. I'm just saying it's something that'd always be at the back of my mind when dropping money on him.

Harper is probably the best baseball prospect of all time. How can he not be ranked above someone who has not established himself as a perennial all star yet (Heyward)? Harper has a better bat all around, or at least has a bat with a higher ceiling than anyone here. Regardless, it's just an opinion from one guy. Doesn't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.

I like the call on Stanton. I think he's a beast that is only going to start getting the recognition he deserves this year.

steve (san fran): rank these players 5 years from now? belt, hosmer, moustakas, harper, heyward, stanton & posey?

John Manuel: 1) Harper. 2) Stanton! 3) Heyward 4) Posey 5) Hosmer 6) Moustakas 7) Belt Pretty stout group. Still regret letting Ben Badler talk me out of ranking Stanton third in my personal top 50 in the '09 Handbook; had him 10, behind Wieters, Price, Feliz, Hanson, Heyward, Bumgarner, Travis Snider, Cam Maybin & Pedro Alvarez. List has held up well, still wish I had Stanton higher.

Stupid, Stupid answer IMO, I can see the argument for Stanton, but Harper no way in hell. I honesty hope Harper fails in baseball like Reggie Bush failed in football. I hate the hype of this guy plus I've heard he's a two bit A-Hole to everyone but his father and brother. Almost sounds like a Todd Marinovich scenario. I'd put a wager in that Machado will not only be the better player but the one that will show that he belongs in the majors first. Heyward has the ceiling of a outfield version of Frank Thomas, Harper is no Mickey Mantle like BA hypes him to be.

When being a nice guy becomes a prerequisite to hitting .300 or dropping 40 HR's in a season I'll check back with you for more baseball/prospecting advice.

Are you drunk, the greatest prospect was Mantle. Harper has shown no ability to hit .300 outside a few AB's in a launching pad in AZ and in 13 Spring AB's where one board member has found a massive hitch in his swing. So what's Harper's ceiling if he hits .250 with 40 HR's, an Adam Dunn with no walking skills with a better arm. Is that the best prospect of all time. Hell for all we know he could be the next Tom Tresh who was suppost to be the next Mantle in NY.

This all seems so very pointless. We get it. You don't think Harper will be as good as many think he will be. I'll send you your cookie in a PWE.

Was that the hitch that slowed down his swing 1 to 2 seconds?

Well it's true that it's a bridge to cross when he gets there. Plenty of prospecting money to be made between now and then (surely). I'm sure his mental game is something that he'll hopefully get the hang of in the minors -- just a little something that allows him to distinguish between ferocity about success and ferocity at any amount of failure.
