Ken Rosenthal is tweeting that Lester to the Pirates is imminent. Will be very interesting to see what my Sox get back. Kind of heartbroken, he's a great pitcher and he's going to mow down the NL on a salary drive.

****UPDATE THIS WAS A FAKE TWEET RETWEETED BY A BOSTON SPORTS WRITER WHO LATER APOLOGIZED THAT IT WAS A FAKE ROSENTHAL TWEET HE WASN'T HAPPY ABOUT***** Sorry everyone!

Hopefully, the Sox do what it takes to get him back after the season. I was just listening about how little they'll have on the books in 2 years - in addition to the TV money and all.

They can easily afford him.

I don't understand why he (or anyone) would WANT to go back after being traded.

Because he wants to play for Boston, and he sounds genuine when he says it. He may understand that Boston may have just been trying to see what parts they can add since this year is going to be a bust. They can take what they get and just resign Lester for next season.

He wants to pitch for someone who doesn't want him. Makes sense.

If I try to put myself in that situation, I think I would be okay with it. I know I love where I'm playing but also know the team isn't going to win this year. I get a short-term chance to go back to the playoffs and after a few months can negotiate to come back to where I want to be. Sounds like a win-win for Lester, especially if he pitches well for Pittsburgh and increases his salary potential.

I agree with your other post, too. I'm glad he's not going to the Dodgers. Sure, he's a great pitcher and potentially great when it counts, but I'm not wanting to see our future get hamstrung.

If this was the Rosenthal or Olney tweet, they've been fake accounts for the last 24 hours reporting the Pirates/Sox deal

Eh, it's not that Boston doesn't want him. Maybe he understands that Boston comes out on the better end if they trade him for assets then pay him at the end of the season - which would be what would have happened with Boston, anyway. This way, Boston gets a little, and he can come back and possibly have some real run support for whoever they get in trade.

The idea that Boston doesn't want Lester... PSSHHHHH

DING DING DING

He understands Boston's needs and, at worst, still comes back at a hell of a deal for him. At best, he starts blowing **** out of the water and becomes worth WAY more.

Hah! yeah, Rosenthal's timeline has nothing about it... sooo all of this talk for nada!

However-

"…Those teams include #Indians , #Marlins and others. Lackey also would appeal to clubs interested in Lester. #RedSox "

I don't think it's a matter of "we don't want you" at all. If Boston values him as much as I think they do, then they've already spoken with him about this. He's no dummy - he knows he's a valuable trading chip, and if he's serious about coming back for 2015 and beyond, he absolutely knows that whoever Pittsburgh sends in trade has the potential to help him and the team down the road.

I don't want him in St. Louis. Not even for a few months. Let him go to Pittsburg or Milwaukee. The Cardinals will beat both of them when it matters, like always. Hell, send him to the Dodgers. The Yankees of the West can't beat St. Louis when it matters either. It's just been proven over and over.
