Was listening to the radio on the way home and someone called in complaining that on Bryant Gumble(sp?) the other day(tuesady) he said before the end of the show that Bagwell had no chance of getting into the hall because of steroids. Anyone else hear this? In no way am I shocked if he did take them. My thinking is now that something was brought up by a well known sports source...maybe some digging will ensue. Its been my theory that Bagwell did use. So no shock there. But it seems like there really hasn't been anybody locally trying to out him. I wonder if he will be caught up in the scandal too.

First off I do not live in your area so It would not be on my radio.

But I really could careless if they prove he did it. In the end they all will be outed.

Of course you don't get the same radio show I do. But I seriously doubt everyone gets outed.

Kinda makes you wonder if the only serious newspaper in town(the chronicle) has purposefully not been doing any digging as not to shed any of the Houston players in a bad light.

Was Gumble saying that Bagwell did, or that the cloud of steriods hurts everyone in the era? I hated when the Giants faced Bagwell, they could never get him out.

He always seemed hurt though and he could have used steriods to heal faster. Either way, it wasn't against the rules until recently, people, sports writers, ect.., need to let the witch hunts go and just look at the numbers of everyone from the period and decide who was better compared to their peers. At one point they lowered and raised the mounds giving pitchers an unfair advatage, they've move fences and re-designed balls to help hitters, guys get eye surgery and lift insane amounts of wieghts to gain an advantage and we all look at those stats equally. So the media needs to let it go and assume all individuals used during that era.

Not sure. Didn't see the show. All he did supposedly say was that Bagwell's chances of getting into the hallf were hurt by his steroid use. How Bagwells name was brought up was a mystery to me. I may see if they have a replay of it somewhere.

It's the media. I rarely see the media try to protect anyone. They work on a "You heard it here first" mentality. Unless the newspaper is affiliated with the team somehow, I don't see why they wouldn't be digging if not before than definitely now.

Thanks for the link. Yeah...I see the line at the end of it. Kinda odd it never made the paper or anything. Like I said...the media around here is weird. Its not anything like anywhere else. Call me a monkey's uncle but I really believe they try to kinda let sleeping dogs lie around here. If it ever came out that Bags and Biggio(although he wasn't mentioned in the Gumble episode) took roids...Houston fans would be devestated. Unlike San Francisco or New York or the Cardinals...Jeff and Craig were basically the best players we have ever had(aside from Nolan) and seeing as how they played here their whole career...it would really make the fans mad. Sure we have Berkman but IMO, he is a poor man's Bagwell. We have no answer for Craig. That is why I wonder if they are trying to just leave it alone.

That article is an out and out parody, and the author admits as such at the end of it.

I thought that he was quoting what Gumble had to say.

I was referring to the one that supposedly marked Bagwell as the steroid ringleader. It was a satire piece written in 2004.

1, I don't care if he used steroids.

2, I have suspected him of it for years. Biggio too.

Disclaimer: I am a huge Craig Biggio fan and have been for years.
With that said what makes you suspect Biggio?
Is it guilt by association (Camanitti/Bagwell?) or are there other reasons?
He hit 26 home runs in 2005, the most in 20 seasons. He wasn't exactly known for his power.
Most seasons Biggio was easily one of the smallest players on the Astros Roster.
I'm always shocked when I hear people suspect him.

I think with all of the wear and tear on his body from switching positions so many times through the years he would have taken them at some point just to maintain health and to be able to play through injuries and such.

You don't have to be big to have taken roids, or a power hitter. Aaron Boone took them, and you wouldn't have been able to tell.

Thanks Champ, that really clears it up (this thread at least).

Predator... ::facepalm:: & I'll raise you a  for good measure! Come on guy, you catch the arse end of a radio talk show & make a thread acting as if Bagwell has been outed? I'm not sure if you were out of things to post about but this was a bit of a reach (this thread revolves around a viewer's "write-in" letter to the athlete's & it in NO way out's Bag's or ANY of those mentioned in it...It was a fan blowing thier load & frustration's about thier "opinion" on McGwire's steroid apology & Gumbel, in his need to sound as if he's passing on "New's", spout's off about the letter at the end of his show).

So to answer your thread title... NO, Bagwell was not outed for roids. :D

So with this theory, basically everyone who lasted any significant amount of time in baseball is guilty of using roid's (due to the wear & tear of the game & being able to maintain thier health & to be able to play the game)??? Isn't Yadier a catcher?... A whole lotta "wear & tear" goes into catching. :?
