My explanation of it would be that Belichik thought they had better odds of making a 4th and 2 than they did stopping Manning in a 2 minute drill. He gambled wrong and Manning proved him right just on a shorter field. In hindsight all the difference a punt there may have made was 35ish yards in the drive and maybe the same result.

If Faulk gets the spot, we should be saying how it was wrong since he was short. If he would have got the yards for the first, he'd probably be praised.

I don't think he's stupid for doing it. Peyton shredded them for a big drive and TD in 1:52 prior to that. I think trusting his offense more was a respectable move.

You have to go against "the book" sometime. I'm a Colts fan and respect that the Patriots were trying to win the game. (Their whiny fans, however, I can do without.)

In that situation with as much time that was still on the clock, it was the RIGHT CALL....

Especially since every other short down yardage situation in the game the Colts failed to stop the Patriots...even 2 times prior to that situation in the 4th quarter....

Plus, Manning had hit his stride and with that much time left, no matter what, it was just as much of a gamble to punt and give him the ball on the other 30......

I am not sure why this is even a big deal, the Patriots had the opportunity to WIN the game with that play, and in all honesty they made the play, the receiver just didnt have complete control of the ball........either way, at that point of the game, Peyton Manning would have the ball with plenty of time left, so why not go for the WIN...
