I agree with the people questioning the Hicks ranking. I'll be glad when that guy does something to justify his hype.

I'm also not surprised that Tim Wheeler didn't make it. A 23 year old in AA who has a career high average of .256 going into this year has to prove he's legit for more than half a season.

No Familia is disappointing.

I can't imagine many people having Familia in their top 50, but who knows.

Future Set Up Man, he's not a starter. He is a two pitch pitcher and has only one plus pitch.

Guh. Reading this is so annoying.

It's not like BA is doing anything new here guys. It sort of blows my mind that people can look at Goldschmidt and not understand why he's ranked 50 or why Tim Wheeler isn't on the list.

You want a list where Wheeler and Goldschmidt are ranked high, head over to projectprospect, I bet he's got them pretty high.

Where someone ranks on the BA list doesn't change what kind of player they are.

Let's all say this together... "Hit and Power are two of five tools. Hit and Power are two of five tools."

Do we need to say this again?

Now let's say "BA likes ceiling. BA likes ceiling"

And judging by the 2001, 2004, and 2008 BA Prospect Handbooks I have, they're pretty piss-poor at judging ceiling and talent

There are quite a few, what I would consider, notable omissions to this list, that I can see.

5) Tim Wheeler

I agree with you here. It seems Callis is anti-Wheeler for some reason. I know that college=evil in his opinion, unless you are Strasburg.

I've seen Wheeler live a few times already this year. His all or nothing swing is the reason he isn't on this list in my opinion.

This is a great point. There should come a point in time when anybody making a list should concede to accomplishment to some extent, as opposed to pure speculation.

I've got a great idea. I'm going to write and publish my own prospect book, in which I guarantee 100% of the prospects covered will make it big in the Majors, or your money back.

The fastball and the slider are both plus to me. Still young enough to take another step forward.

You can still pick up ARODYS Chrome Autos for under $10 on ebay.

I would think that injury concerns are a main reason his prices are low still.
skrip

yeah, still significant bullpen chatter with him too

I know that your saying and understand that you cant always be right... but just because they are the biggest and most known, doesn't mean they are the best.. At some point your performance has/will be judged.....

I personally like Project Prospects way of rating guys better....

Thought this was interesting..

This is a comment I left on BA's top 50 list story

These lists are all about ceiling and speculation and less about actual accomplishment. That's why Wheeler isn't on it and Goldschmidt is 50. If they are 22 or 23 and still in the minors, there's a good chance they aren't making the list.
Still doesn't mean that they won't be successful big leaguers because they don't make these lists.

He's what JJ Cooper said in response

You are correct, there are very good future major leaguers who didn’t make this list. And you’re also right, we’re not handing out gold stars for first-half accomplishments. This list is compiled by taking the stats, analyzing them, but even more importantly talking to scouts and front office officials and getting their opinions. That explains why Wheeler’s great first half wasn’t enough to get him on the list–considering his past performance scouts want to see him do it for a little while longer. And it’s why Goldschmidt isn’t a top 10 prospect.
