Recently, I've seen base cards outsell the "hits" (autos/gu) in sets.

> Strasburg chrome
> Bryce Harper out of the USA sets
> Prestige football SP's

I am ok with this everyone opens the boxes for the hits so when they pull something like the above its a bonus for them

That has been a nice bonus to the boxes of Bowman this year - if you bought upon release or pre-release. But now, it seems the prices are so high that they've even outpriced the "bonus" of hitting a base strasburg (in other words, the box prices have escalated far beyond the extra $12-15 value the Stras base gives you from the box).

Though ---- I've never seen a base prospect set (1-110) of bowman sell anywhere near what the 2010's are selling for. The sales prices on the sets has been nice.

yeah this makes opening a box of cards worth the hunt when you can sell the base cards as well.

Very true.
I think that's why I find myself buying more baseball boxes now. Seems there are more set/player collectors that make inserts, sp's, #'d cards whatever potentially worth more than .99 at best.
Makes it much more fun to open a box knowing it doesn't always come down to what the couple "hits" are.

The Prestige SP RC's always seem to sell well.....their a tough pull. Could be wrong, but you can go boxes without hitting one - so not sure I'd consider them a "base" type card. Maybe the Harper is that way too, but the Strasburg seems like an easier pull.
